Yearly Budget : What is your current yearly budget for the initiative?
1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this project to succeed.
I rear chickens and use the proceeds to care for my family. Upon arriving at my farm one morning, I found 3/4 of my chicken’s death, of which they were magnificent the previous day. I called so many veterinarians, but before one could arrive, I witness losing a chicken every minute. I searched for a job for 7 months, before receiving a call from my beloved mother who gave me seed capital and blessed me.
I invested the money into animal feed business because it’s less risky. After 3 years of success, our local university sent interns for training. We decided to scale the business and surveyed 126 farmers, 85% of their worries were increasing mortalities and access to the market. Because of this necessity, the PFMS Platform was invented.
2. The problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
The current & future global population growth has increased our protein demands, putting livestock producers especially women & youth in rural communities under pressure to increase production but remain poor despite farming for decades.
Farmer’s main worries are;
-Ready Market & accurate industry information.
-Be valued at the center of the industry to foster Economic & Social Development.
-No easy way exists in bringing together Producers, middlemen, Vets, Pharmaceuticals & final consumers
3. Your solution: How are you working to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
We are using (ICT) to bridge the rural divide in the livestock industry and consumers in the cities with our PFMS PLATFORM, build with the fourth industrial revolution technologies to early detects and rapidly diagnose diseases (Smartphone Lab) much sooner than previously possible, provides instant friendly treatment advice to decrease widespread economic losses (Mortalities) for flock owners with just three simple steps. This intensive system utilizes data captured from various locations to allow farmers to better monitor and control both the livestock and their environment. Farmers can also consult a certified Vet at all times while also receiving updates on best management practices and vaccination reminders including real-time predictions on the locations & timing of possible disease outbreaks to help prevent possible quarantine.
In summary, this is an SMS, web and a mobile app platform where users buy and sell livestock; know their Livestock health condition through instant diagnosis on their phones or consult an expert Veterinarian in real-time to:
Save money when buying
Make money when selling
Economic & social growth when producing, distributing and consuming.
4. Innovation: How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solve the problem?
PFMS platform help farmers diagnosed their chicken health by just taking a photo of the feces, the 4IR build with ethical considerations recognize, and translate the image into speech, provide results with friendly treatment advice & recommend a Vet. It also updates on best management practices + vaccination reminders including real-time predictions on the locations/timing of possible disease outbreaks to help prevent possible quarantine. Just by texting a demand within the entire livestock value chain, our system makes the matches & sends the farmer's contact via a simple text message. This smart assistant supports farmer's daily activities & it’s the reason we are winning. Unlike Ghanaian Startup Cowtribe that offers less similar services
5. Collaboration: How does your initiative seek to bring key players together to preserve biodiversity?
We are bringing all stakeholders in the agricultural industry on board to build the next unicorn venture with primary drivers of smart economic, social & environmental inclusion. Our attitude has been the collaboration with openness; this reminds us that it’s easier to make an impact in our society together rather than individually
Our research confirms chicken manure contains high nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and balanced nutrients; it has the highest nutrient among all livestock. However, if not composted properly, it becomes dangerous to crops by damaging the roots & possibly kills the plants.
In preserving biodiversity we combat soil degradation by providing farmers with techniques to produce organic fertilizers from poultry manure, supply it to grain farmers at breakeven prices & in return, have standard cost & regular supply of these grains for feed which reduces their cost & increase their profit margins, thereby preserving our environment & improving grain farmer’s yields
6. Impact: how has your project made a difference so far — in terms of both business outputs and social impact? How do you plan on measuring progress?
In 6 months, 18K users & generated $83K, 43 expert Vets responding to farmer’s critical concerns. 11 Vet pharmacies for vaccines & medications. 1 Cameroonian pharmaceutical company. 231,697 infectious diseases detected with identified locations. We focus on the impact we want for the industry
- Our solution increases wealth creation as youths become interested in the industry for its safety SDG#1
- 18K users produce & distribute products to combat hunger, directly impacted 90K persons for families of 5 who earn less than $5 daily. SDG#2
-Updates farmers with accurate industry information, best practices, vaccines, & medication reminders. SDG#4
- Bridges the market access gap in real-time, creating inclusive trading with rural farmers and urban consumers. SDG#8
-It brings a massive change to the industry and would be rolled out to other countries. SDG#9
-It simplifies Vets/farmer's pains by quickly detecting infectious disease & linking them to quickly arrest the situation. SDG#17
7. Growth strategies: what are your main strategies for scaling your impact?
We started with our Existing Networks by using retail locations such as feed meal stores, Vet pharmacies, Farmers' unions & local markets; Word of Mouth became the most appreciated. Social Media is also doing us some good, likewise Referral Programs in farming communities where we offer Training & workshops.
Before now no lucrative platform exits that value farmers at the center of the industry, connect traders & middlemen with fit-for-slaughter & traceable livestock to urban consumers directly, connect farmers with veterinarians without stress, help them to earn better profits in the most hassle-free manner which enables them to query current market prices. Our 2020 milestone is to reach 100K users within our entire livestock value chain
8. Creating shared value: How does your initiative create value for society? Or different stakeholders?
-Our platform values farmers at the center of the industry and collaborates with every stakeholder to bridge the rural divide and final consumers in the cities,
-It makes agriculture more fun and engaging for young people because of its prosperity and safety, reducing crimes, Illegal immigration to the United States passing through Mexico or by boat to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
-Combat soil degradation by providing farmers with techniques to produce organic fertilizers from poultry manure to preserve biodiversity.
-Increase our food security and guarantee fit-for-slaughter & traceable livestock, affordable and available
-Improves our wellbeing, economic and social growth
9. Financial sustainability plan: can you tell us about your plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?
There is an available market share of +$8 billion. We are ready for a 40% market share within five years. Our milestone for 2020 is to reach 100K users. We already have 18K users within 6 months & generated $83K. In 2021, we plan to scale to all livestock farming communities in Cameroon and 7 African countries with over 1M users. In 5 years, we should be having 10M users worldwide. We take just a $1 Monthly subscription fee on each user.
Best case scenario 40% of +$8 Billion =+$3.2 Billion
Average case scenario 20% of +$8 Billion= +$1.6 Billion
Worst case scenario 2% of +$8 Billion =+$160 Million
We are looking for 12 months Angel Round of $200K financing to reach 100K users and generate $1.2M in revenue. This makes us sustainable.
10. Team: what is the current composition of your current team (types of roles, qualifications, full-time vs. part-time, board members, etc.), and how do you plan to evolve the team’s composition as the project grows?
Our team is made up of 4 experienced, dynamic and committed young minds of equal gender in management positions with various backgrounds that truly understand their roles but support each other with effective communication while focusing on the goals and impacts with a vision to help in solving part of the world's developmental problems. Mr. Henry, farmer Co-Founder/CEO, Miss. Diana, HR/Accountant Co-Founder/COO, Mr. Peter, certified Software Engineer & developer, Mrs. Leke, Marketer CMO.
