1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this project to succeed.

The idea / project arose from one of the group members, Agustín Amigo Orge, advanced student of Lic. In Economics at the Universidad Nacional del Sur (Bahía Blanca, Argentina) in one of the subjects of the career as Final Project, Economics de la Energía, which to approve it you had to present an economic project with environmental and social impact in some locality of Argentina. That's when he traveled to his town, Carhué (Adolfo Alsina, Buenos Aires), and at the entrance there is a refrigerator and hatchery of pigs that do not treat their effluents and throw them to the side of the route, just at the entrance to the location. Finally, he decided to create EcoCircular and start working with various sectors, professionals and entities.

2. The problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

The central problem that it solves is the pollution generated by solid urban, sewage and agroindustrial waste in the soil, air and water of the city of Carhué. But it also provides a solution to other problems that the town has: energy for industries to be installed, generating genuine qualified and unqualified employment, added value to the municipality for the amount of goods and services produced, among others.

3. Your solution: How are you working to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

To solve this problem we are working on several fronts. On the one hand, training in specific topics of each professional; on the other, participating in calls and incubators to access professionals and contacts for financing; In turn, we conduct mass media interviews in the locality, we give talks in schools and institutions, among others. This allows us to disseminate the project, assess the importance of caring for the environment, demonstrate to society that there is a definitive and sustainable solution to the problems, highlight the great benefits and opportunities that would arise from the implementation of EcoCircular in the city ​​(added value, employment, clean environment, tourism, among others).

4. Innovation: How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solve the problem?

Unlike the projects that are in operation today, it gives us a real long-term solution (more than 30 years) and is applicable to any city in Argentina, regardless of the number of inhabitants. This solution stands out among all the others because all the agents involved benefit from a triple positive impact (environmental, social and economic). There is currently no comprehensive and complete disposal-treatment of urban, sewage and agro-industrial solid waste generated by a city in Argentina. "Partial" treatments are performed or using technologies that are not environmentally friendly or sustainable. Added to the application of "producing seaweed".

5. Collaboration: How does your initiative seek to bring key players together to preserve biodiversity?

Being a project that does not generate rivalry with the existing agents in the Adolfo Alsina market and generating a positive Triple Impact, there are many companies, institutions and citizens interested in carrying out the realization of the project. One of the most interested agents is the State of Adolfo Alsina, since it would work in a complementary manner (the State responsible for the collection and transfer to the waste plant and EcoCircular final disposal and treatment of waste) and one of the critical problems that the municipality has without any economic cost. Without a doubt it is a very ambitious mission, but we have the support of strategic sectors for its success in the locality (the population, educational entities, political parties, clubs, media communication, private companies, public services, among others.). And for more than 5 years we have been studying the problem, training ourselves and looking for a definitive solution.

6. Impact: how has your project made a difference so far — in terms of both business outputs and social impact? How do you plan on measuring progress?

I have been working on this project for years. The dissemination to the population in the town is the first step (I attended all the media of Adolfo Alsina's party, TV, radio, weekly, among others). It is essential in small towns like Carhué, to have the support of the media that are highly “consumed” by the inhabitants. Undoubtedly, educational entities, institutions, clubs and political parties are another important part of the process, I also held meetings with the main referents in each aspect. Demonstrate possible solutions to a problem that has not been resolved for years and in turn, every day it increases more and its consequences on the environment increase.

7. Growth strategies: what are your main strategies for scaling your impact?

Initially, the project is designed for the Municipality of Adolfo Alsina, Buenos Aires (Argentina), generating a direct impact on the inhabitants, businesses and institutions (private and public) and an indirect impact on neighboring towns as a "domino effect. "with the possibility of imitating behaviors and thus, enjoy the great benefits provided by EcoCircular. It is essential to have the support of the various sectors to achieve the success of the project and the greatest possible benefits.

8. Creating shared value: How does your initiative create value for society? Or different stakeholders?

The project has several new issues, considering that there is no "Green City" in Argentina that disposes, processes and adds value to waste that is discarded in open-air dumps or open-air dumps. In addition to mitigating the problem, qualified and unqualified work is generated, scarce by-products in the country and strategic (energy and fertilizers for soils that over time suffer from nutrient wear), and on the side of the algae, a market that has great projection and many nutritional, energy and health properties for the population.

9. Financial sustainability plan: can you tell us about your plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

Referring to the products / services generated by the project, a distinction of markets must be made, considering that over time new goods are incorporated. Generating various sources of income to make the project sustainable and profitable. Se requiere de una gran inversión y posibilidad de acceder a tasas de crédito "blandas" a largo plazo. Permitiendo que se cumpla con las amortizaciones correspondientes, sin interrumpir su funcionamiento. El punto de equilibrio se alcanza luego de los 10 años, ya que es un proyecto a más de 30 años y requiere de una gran maduración.

10. Team: what is the current composition of your current team (types of roles, qualifications, full-time vs. part-time, board members, etc.), and how do you plan to evolve the team’s composition as the project grows?

The accountants provide their knowledge so that the project works in the best way, in charge of the administration and accounting control sector, the lawyer is in charge of the legal aspects and qualifications, the agronomist in technical aspects referred to the biofertilizer and its application in the fields and finally the Lic. in Economics as General Director of the project.
