Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

Food production is value to the farmer, sustenance of life for the consumer. Airofresh was born from an idea based on farming observation. The need to keep produce fresh longer, without chemicals. Our project is now our business keeping more existing food available for people, creating jobs and opportunity to handle the produce. The uses of this technology are very broad and supports local manufacture, employment and economy. This is a great partnership project to build local ability with excellent results.

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

Airofresh is a multi function unit that creates a proven natural ethylene inhibitor. Extends shelf life of cold or ambient stored produce by 75% without chemicals. Chemicals lose efficiency from the moment they are applied. Airofresh keeps performing at peak efficiency throughout the storage period. Destroying contaminants including fungus, mold, virus, bacteria and gas phase contaminants. Cheap to run, creates employment locally in manufacture, annual servicing and product management. We conducted a trial with apples fully chemically treated vs organic stored for 6 months in a shipping container. End of storage no difference between produce. With Airofresh refrigerated storage's can run warmer due to the ethylene inhibition. Airofresh stops cross contamination between produce in storage.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

Most of our clients are large producers now weaning off chemicals.
Fruit juicers prefer Airofresh produce so they do not get chemical residues in their juices.
With Airofresh, you may get a rotten piece of fruit in a storage bin but it no longer infects the bin resulting in more produce for sale.
Ethylene is a drying gas that Airofresh inhibits and therefore average weight in storage is 10% greater.
Our units have been tested at LaTrobe university, Lion Co (Kirin Group) Labs in Tasmania with excellent results. We can remove >85% of airborne fungus, mold and yeast. Greater than 85% of ethylene gas and VOC's in enclosed atmosphere.
Our technology allows us to have large volume airflow. Far better than ozone, ion or photo catalytic devices. Farmers get more, longer lasting, great quality produce with no chemicals and greater profit in cold or ambient storage's.

We do not sell Airofresh, is purchased leasehold. We retain the rights of servicing our units each year for a fee. We have our sales income and our residual income each year from prior sales.
This project in our estimation must be financially self sustaining and is commercially proven to be so over time. Grant funds will allow this project to flower and grow quickly to the many places that can benefit most. Costing production (locally) will reflect in lower local costs to acquire, resulting locally in more produce, quality and value. This is a self sustaining, profitable enterprise married to economic benefits in manufacture and servicing.

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

Airofresh technology does not rely on ozone, photo or ion technology that restricts airflow. Airofresh is an award winning patented, trademarked highly Intense oxidation module, driven by light. Structured light frequencies, electronics and specialized coatings and construction destroy all contaminants within the unit. A unique biological and gas phase control unit.

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

Airofresh was a concept that was delayed by other projects. By accident we discovered the process in research of another unrelated project. Required re-manufacturing of parts and the result was new, unique and very very effective. Unlike anything anyone else was doing. Certainly not in post harvest. Airofresh is very capable. The "Aha" moment to enter this application was our promotional literature is called Airofresh - The Change Maker. The similarity in the Nestle CSV and our Airofresh literature seemed like a message to participate. Airofresh needs recognition to succeed broadly. This technology has many uses including post harvest storage which also include medical and hygiene (not just developing countries).

We have "the edge". Time to move into the wider world to enable others in less fortunate circumstance to build our machines themselves, fit and service them.

Post-harvest loss is very prominent especially in the developing world. This technology is bound to bring relief to many farmers and marketers of fresh produce. We believe the full acceptance of it by the various regulatory agencies for organic produce will pave the way for great profits which will trickle down to the farmers. A great partnership must be worked out to enable many end users in various countries to benefit also. The business model should be fully restructured to benefit a greater community. Definitely, we will be interested to know more and collaborate in this breakthrough technology. More grease to your elbows.
