Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

The objective is to allow investors from all over the world to buy debt securities and stocks to finance the growth of social enterprises that have a mission to address social, environmental and other green development related needs.

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

The MSSE is one of the platforms in the social capital market value chain to generate social products by directing investment capital to social enterprises. Other platforms include the the X-celerator, Partners Incorporated, Rural Development Fund, Rural Development Growth Fund....

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

Impact is minimal at this stage due to the complexity in setting up the first Malaysian Social Stock Exchange that require approval from various authorities in Malaysia in relation to stock investment and trading. Similar Social Stock Exchanges (SSEs) in UK, US, Sweden, Canada and Singapore in operation have proven in the work-ability and impact to society.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

Grants from a think tank in Malaysia -100%. Additional grants from Changemakers' Partners in this contest.

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

Social Stock Exchnges (SSEs) are a relatively new phenomenon in the stock exchange markets. Malaysia's Social Stock Exchange will provide all the benefits of other public trading vehicles, such as Liquidity, Efficiency and Transparency (LET). The uniqueness is that social enterprises listed on the SSE must also show their environmental and social returns.

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

Was reading about world trends on CSR and capital markets and saw the emerging trends in marrying both of them.
