Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

Kardinia Hope School addresses the fundamental problem of recurring poverty cycles in Nigeria, especially in the rural areas, due to Negligence on the part of the Nigeria government to promote & support Early Childhood Education (ECE) for vulnerable & disadvantaged children living in poor rural communities in Nigeria.
(ECE) benefits the child, community and economy of any Nation.
Commercialising Early Childhood Education impedes the growth & development of 60% of Nigeria's Children living in rural area.

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

In Nigeria, the Child Right Act (2003), & various Policies on Education, Food, Nutrition & Health of the Nigerian Child, recognises the importance of Early Childhood Education (ECE) but unfortunately fails to implement it.
Rather, ECE's are organized by profit-driven investors, whose absence in rural Nigeria is attributed to low or No profit on investment.
Kardinia Hope School as a model operates a Free ECE built through local mobilization and support in rural Nigeria.
Sustained enlightenment on the importance of ECE led to mutual trust, conviction & mobilization of local resources towards establishing Kardinia Hope School.
Effective use of a free mobile technology like YouTube Channels on ECE teaching aids & tools bridges information gap & replaces costly Educational Materials.
The use of local Agric farming scheme supports in-school nutrition target & budget.
Presently, the facility may not cater for the next set of intake by next year due to increase in participation.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

Our Free Early Childhood Education programs impact positively on the Child, Community and Economy.
There is evident growth & development in children enrolled into the school, as seen in higher literacy rate, improved focus, problem-solving skills & self-esteem.
The collective support from the host community promotes a sense of Pride and fulfilment.
Increased productivity as Parents now has more time to work and improve their Finances.
The Economy stands to benefits more as it is easier and cost effective to "build stronger children than to repair broken Men".
Presently, the number of children willing to enrol far exceeds the present facility.
Using effective grooming methods as identified in ECE programs, will produce children capable of understanding their environment and future leaders.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

1. Individual donation from the Okwudishu family & friends in Nigeria and Melbourne Australia is a major source of finance. This support accounts for 60% of the budget.
2. Grants; No Grants
3. Corporate Contribution: No
4. Earned Income: No
5. Other: (A)...The Foundation's Agricultural project partially provides for the food. We are hopeful that next year farming season will be greater due to our plans for Farm Expansion. We are optimistic that if we are able to expand our farming through the aquisition of arable land and the introduction of improved crop varieties, there is a possibility of raising the percentage to 60% from our agricultural production.

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

At Kardinia Hope Foundation, our unique value lies in our people-oriented project which is powered by local support and contribution.
Passion for Development Project.
Trust is Earned.
Considerable trust and collaboration from local stakeholders, who volunteer their skills, finances and time freely to support our projects.
Involving local participation & creating a sense of belonging and ownership, leads to support and protection of our project. These are our unique value proposition

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

Twenty-three (23) years ago, I was a recipient of a rare benevolent act. I was given an opportunity to pursue Higher Education. Nobody in my immediate family had been given that offer. I felt how gracious it was to be given a gift of life.
7 years after, I was challenged to build a tricycle for a physically-challenged boy, he needed it to commute to school, though it was a hard project to actualise, I was glad when I presented the tricycle to the young boy. His face lit up, it reminded me of my earlier joy of having the opportunity to go to school.
But this time, the feeling was different, I just witnessed the awesome joy that comes with the ability to solve someone else's challenge.
It dawned on me that it is better to give.
I just realised at that moment, that what the world needs is just a commitment by ordinary people to do ordinary good deeds. We are the Change we need.
