Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

Environmental Insecurity in Lake Atitlán, Solola. Mayan Kaqchikeles has always depend o water for agriculture and at home. Unfortunately, most of them cut down trees without plant it back. We know that there is less fresh water on Earth and bad environmental practices around the world.

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

Lake Atitlán is dying, some people and visitors are killing it. We are now planting trees around our fresh water sources and implement more green areas with auto-sustainable services. We are providing a visual environmental education to empower visitors to take green action. From Tolan, we are promoting and leading not to use plastic and other non biodegradable items. We are now working with other agencies to promote reforestation to protect others fresh water sources.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

This is a unique ecological project located in the north side of Lake Atitlán. It is working under the Maya Cosmovision. It started in 2012 and it is growing more. It is developed by 20 families and owners of the areas. We protect the forest which has flora and fauna. Most of our families depends on agriculture and water at home. We also depend on informal and small business to sustain our families. We provide ecological services and organic products to have a balanced life on Earth.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

Providing auto-sustainable services of rappelling, climbing, paragliding, camping, hiking, view to the Lake, and birds watching.
Earned Income US$5,000.00

Real connection with the Maya Kaqchikel culture
Authentic and quality of environmental practices
Balance and quality of life

We were born and raised in this land of Tolan as the Mayas Kaqchikeles of Lake Atitlán. We have our own sources of acknowledge placed in Popol Wuj and the Memorial of the Kaqchikeles. That is why we do things a bit different that the others. We do business starting from inside us and connect it to Nature without killing us. We seek for balance of life of all living beings.
