Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

Songhai is motivated by challenges of Food Insecurity, poverty,Rural Exodus,Brain drain, depending on external economy and environmental degradation. We seeking to establish an entrepreneurial platform of integrated development,an enabling environment to find social, economic, technical and organizational solutions that will take our population out of poverty, pulling them towards autonomy and sustainable social development for now and tomorrow.

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

Our model is based on the principles of synergy,(interaction between 3 poles: agriculture-animal husbandry-fish farming),the integrated system of production recycles and reasserts the value of by-products/waste of the production units and of the farm in general,it offers numerous technical, ecological, economic and social advantages. It trains women and youth in key aspects of agricultural entrepreneurship-Animal,plant,aquaculture production-Food processing-Manufacturing of agricultural machines-marketing-community tele-centers, a start up kit for agri-prenuers and above all providing market for all outputs. At the onset, participating members are the targeted consumers of what is produced at our center(piglets, chicks, seed etc) while at community production level, we are the market as their outputs are the raw material for the different processing units. We only market finished products

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

The venture is at start up phase. We have so far initiated key projects(Goat rearing farm-100 goats, poultry unit3,000 chicks, piggery unit-100pigs and 3 traditional fish ponds with 600 fishligs. we have also carried out base lines surveys in the area of fish farming, goat and pig keeping. We have identified a foreign company from Israel (Appropriate Aquaculture, Israel Ltd) with wide experience in fish farming technology, with whom we have entered partnership for technology transfer. We have also conducted feasibility study for a milling plant that will make fortified foods, animal, poultry and fish feeds. We have conducted agronomic training to 1500 women and youths(Boys).
Our venture is a replication of what is being done at the Songhai Regional Center of Excellence based at Porto-Novo Republic of Benin where it has successfully transformed many African Societies since October 1985.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

This inittaitive is elf financing after the initial investment. At on set, mother farms are being established to market inputs to participating members. Once these members begin production, their outputs will form the basis of raw material supply to the different processing lines that shall have been put up for value addition. Financing will be from the following key sources: Individual donations of initiators
Earned income and Grants

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

This initiative is innovative in that it mobilizes, trains and equips farmers to exit poverty

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

The initiative started in July 2014 when i attended the Inter-ministerial Conference for Least Developed countries organized by the UN in Cotonou, Benin. We visited the Songhai Regional Center for Excellence based at Porto-Novo and was moved by the sustainable and innovations being implemented here. , I letter organized a study tour of the model in May 2015 where i visited all Songhai centers in Benin. I returned to Uganda burning after this exposure and took a resolute to pioneer such innovation in East Africa. The cyclic poverty the people of East Africa Leave in become my driving force to initiate this venture as i new it would attract and benefit many. Though initiated in Uganda, it will be rolled out to all East African Countries

This is a good venture Sir. I'm conversant with songhai center in PortNovo and I'm sure, with a synergy with the centre, such project in Uganda will be a blessing to many Lives in several locations.
The innovative thing about songhai operations is the "No-Waste" and fully Organic model which I hope you will effectively adopt and not compromise for cost. Partnerships might help achieve that.

I would also expect that since you are replicating the songhai center for excellence, they could help you with technology transfer as an indigenous (African) organisation which might have proven several technologies from international companies over the period of their year of existence. That would save you cost of testing technologies, and will give solid foundation to start from.

Above all, I'll say Weldone Sir and wish you success in the operations and fulfilment of your Vision for Uganda and East Africa.
