Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

Currently, there are no locally/regionally manufactured gluten-free flour on the market & the few foreign brands sold are either exorbitantly priced or are not heavily stocked. The population is becoming very health conscious & is actively seeking healthier, affordable & locally made food alternatives, for everyday use. We aim to address this issue of reducing the number of persons diagnosed with diabetes, make affordable products for autistic, celiac & persons financially burdened by special diets or nutritional needs

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

Our products are 20% cheaper than available products and are a much healthier alternative for persons who are gluten sensitive due to ailment. If healthier products like ours are available for bakeries, domestic households and other to use we increase the likelihood of reducing the number of persons diagnosed with diabetes. At present over 75, 000 persons are diagnosed with diabetes in T&T. Also, increasing healthier options mean that persons who are health conscious or diagnosed with celiac, autism and other ailments can enjoy food anywhere in the country. Because it is cheaper & locally made there is a familiar taste therefore the local market will not be hesitant to switch from white/wheat flour. Our packaging will be reusable thus, environmentally friendly until the country has adapted to walking with their own containers/packaging from home. This will eventually reduce country waste.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

Can potentially : increase healthy eating choices and options for locals by 10%; reducing the price of crops used in product production due to potential increase in farming activities by 20%; increase the number of times the local dollar circulates within the local economy by 30%; provide incentives for local farmers to increase crop output and increase number of persons farming; increase jobs, skills and opportunities outside of public sector by 8%; improve nations health by increasing the presence of healthier and affordable food options 40%; improving T&T potential to manufacture it's own food by 15%; increase local produce contribution to GDP; increase national nutritional food intake and increase other local business service activities such as financial sector, creative sector(printing, designing and others) and possibly a local packaging company that offers environmentally friendly packaging (reusable/rice paper) by 100% respectively.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

This business was mostly funded by Individual Investments but I currently won "What's your big idea?" Competition which matched my financial contributions by 35%. I intend to apply for a business grant and/or Business Loan to facilitate any additional finances needed to get the business fully functional. In addition, Product sales will be reinvested until the business is financially stable.

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

Our business is innovative because there is no other business commercially offering pumpkin flour, banana flour or eggshell powder in our region. No other business is seeking to address a myriad of issues and maintain the environment, as well as, promote a healthier lifestyle in our region. We are innovative because we will be a cheaper & a local alternative to what is offered whilst promoting other local businesses. Our competitors are international based companies or a heathy alternative

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

I was challenged by my lecturer to come up with an innovative idea for my senior project - BBA Management & Entreprenurship and I looked at current local health issues, food sustainability and affordability concerns, the concerns of farmers, economic diversity needs and environmental concerns, then it sort of clicked that I needed a product that addressed all these concerns. After much thinking, I started researching different healthy food industries and came across gluten-free products.
