Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

Sanitation and unemployment in rural areas

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

Providing good quality and affordable detergents to people in rural areas. I approach unemployed youth who are interested in selling the products in their communities. They use the money they make as a source of income. The most promising aspects for creating shared value is that it helps the unemployed youth especially those in rural areas.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

People in rural areas have been happy to receive such products after a long time of using the green bar soap to do every chore at home, whether it is washing dishes, doing the washing or bathing. I sell between 70 and 100 units of detergents per week. I am capable of selling more but it is not possible for now since the company is self funded and I suffer from the financial limitations but I have more youth members who are willing to sell the products.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

The company is funded using my PhD scholarship and my annual budget for now is R1000000.

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

My initiative is unique because it allows the independent suppliers to determine the profit they want to make based on where they live.

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

I grew up in Centocow which is a rural area in Bulwer.I didn't want to be one of those people who move to the city once they have got their degree. I don't believe in leaving people in the dark. I believe in bringing them the light if they have not seen it. So instead of letting them stick to using the green bar soap for everything I decided to bring them affordable products that will force them to change and buy the dish washing liquid for dishes and the washing powder for doing the washing.
