Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

Current Problem: 88% of people using flushing toilet system, flush with fresh portable water. 72% of people wash hands after using the bathroom in the basin with fresh water. A person uses 350ml (adult) to 1ltr (kids) of fresh water to wash their hands after using the toilet.

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

Our Solution: We have combined a toilet cistern with a basin (same as a male urinal system with a basin); allowing you to pee or use the toilet, flush, wash your hands and save fresh water. Process: (0) Pee/Sit Down to use the Toilet, (1) Flush with fresh water after using the toilet, as your flushing, the fresh water is redirected into the (2) Basin, thus allowing you to wash your hands with fresh water and improve your hygiene, (3)You are no longer flushing (solids or liquids) with fresh water, however you will be flushing with grey water now and at the same time (4) Save between 350ml to 1ltr of fresh water per toilet session-as you will no longer need to use the basin to wash your hands, thus saving water.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

The system has an overall saving of 2.5 ltrs per day,+-20ltrs per week in a household of 4. Programs We have embarked on a roll out program with The Nelson Mandela Foundation to educate 1 000 kids across across South Africa in School 100 schools and Early Child Development Centers on grey water education, improved hygiene and importance of saving fresh water (350ml-1ltr per toilet session). The program is rolled out with a aim to enforce the following impact: 1. Training Empowerment for 30 Women with Basic Plumbing Skills. 2. Train and Develop 15 Women on Plastic Fabrication (Manufacturing of the Product). 3. Train 10 Women on soft skill campaign roll out and management. The program has partnered with the municipalities, in adopting Youth Women who are currently on Indigent Programs (poorest of the poor), as a way to skill them and introduce them to the work environment.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

We are currently self funded. However we have made submissions with various funding organizations and are currently shortlisted to be fully funded by 2018. The Nelson Mandela Foundation program will be funded by the Municipality and Corporate Entities. Our products are commercial products, which we plan by 2018 2nd qtr to be fully commercial and in association with green construction and plumbing bodies as a preferred Toilet Technology Partner

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

We are bring grey water usage in everyday living, improving hygiene-aligned with The UN Water Report

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

My Partner &I, were at the farmlands having a chilled afternoon lunch; The bathroom's basin had broken-thus made it impossible to wash hands, and every time we had to wash our hands we had to go around. It was when I went to the toilet probably for the 2nd or 3rd time and i just decided to wash my hands in the cistern before i could flush instead of going around. At this point it hadn't kicked in as yet what had been discovered. I told him how I found a short cut for us to wash our hands-we had a big laugh about it, he gave it a try On his way back he asked a question, "Budah, why can't everyone do this-Mara"?We laughed! ...&2 days later The Loo Cap Basin Prototype was developed-Thobejane & Mpete Innovations (TnM) was founded
