Problem: What problem is this initiative trying to address?

This initiative is trying to fill a gap in waste management in the rural areas as local municipalities do not cover rural areas for waste management services. The project has targeted this particular aspect of a problem because rural areas use burning system to get rid of waste thereby polluting the environment . Some of the waste are just dumped all over the area especially disposable nappies making the area to look unpleasant and smelly.

Solution Summary: What is the proposed solution? What do you see as its most promising aspects for creating shared value?

This project aims at implementing waste management in rural areas using donkey cart. Waste will be collected from twice a week , disposed at our disposal site and be sorted accordingly. The recyclable waste will be send to the recycling companies. The project is still researching on ways to decompose nappies as the biggest problem both in rural and urban areas.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Specify both the social and the environmental impact of your work

The project will help to improve the environmental status in rural areas and also create more employment for rural communities.

Financial sustainability plan: How is this initiative financially supported? How will you ensure its financial sustainability long-term?

The project is still looking for funding.

Unique value proposition: What makes your initiative innovative? How does your project differ from other organizations working in the same field?

This project differs from others because it is also looking at the innovative way of decomposing nappies. The fact that it has its own disposal site for sorting increases labour. The use of donkey carts reduces air pollution.

Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.

We are from the rural area and we grew up around a heap of waste with flies and rodents. We saw it very important to make a difference in our community through waste management system as we have studied environmental science.

Where did you hear about the Nestlé Creating Shared Value Prize?

Nice initiative! Is there any sustainable plan on how to handle the waste after been gathered using donkey chart? Are you thinking of recycling the waste? I call that WASTE TO WEALTH!!!

Hello Adeyemo Haybee, all the recyclable waste will be sent to the recycling companies. My plan is to collaborate with other recycling companies. Another plan is to promote and influence waste recycling in the community by implementing and supporting already existing projects that modifies waste material to usable products such as plastic bags, mats, toys, decorative accessories and the like.
I like the slogan "Waste to Wealth".
