Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that sparked the beginning of this initiative.
During one of the baseline surveys in Haveri, Karnataka our project coordinator shared a shocking incident. The survey reported, pregnant women in the region were found to be highly anaemic. When intervened by our HWs, a pregnant women once revealed not taking any green vegetables fearing her child will bear a big head. Further as she complained of fatigue, she was advised by her fellow mate to eat less. Thus, she ate one-meal a day and worked in the field as daily wage earner. This revelation gave us an understanding that nutrition monitoring and screening is critical for effective mother and child intervention and major investment made towards addressing the gap in last mile has failed to scale up.iKure together with its supply side of healthcare services adopts Communication for behaviour approach to combat the nutritional needs and deficiencies in infants and pregnant women.
