1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed
I grew up in a lower-middle-class family in a village and then migrated to Dhaka for better education. When I was university student, I founded a tution centre to earn money for continuing my education and not to depend on others. After university, I naturally started my work into the Non-government sector. During this time I was exposed to persons with disabilities and started to develop a deep connection with this community. This enabled to realize that the stance by the Government and NGO’s has largely been not to mainstream persons with disabilities but treat them as recipients of welfare. I thought that more need to be done to transform the lives and the ecosystem around persons with disabilities and I started Access Bangladesh.
2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?
Unemployment problem of People with Disabilities (PwDs) is extremely high in Bangladesh and the country is losing 1.7% of GDP annually due to exclusion of PwDs from employment. Due to unavailable information, PwDs do not find the write pathway to skills development and employment opportunities. On the other hand, training institutes and employers do not know the information of potential job-seekers and learners with disabilities.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
The proposed project will develop a dedicated job portal for facilitating employment opportunities for young people with disabilities. The portal will consist of different pages like job-seekers with disabilities, employers, training Institutes etc. Job-seekers can register their name, submit and update CV at free of cost. Potential employers can register their name, submit their job circular and select potential candidates from the online CV bank. Training institutes can post their admission circular of different courses and upload information of graduate with disabilities. The portal will also have the provision of online interactive learning platform where employers, training providing Institutions can raise their challenges relating to the employees/learners with disabilities and they will get solutions online on how to mange learners and employees with disabilities. Online training facilities will be there to train job-seekers with disabilities on soft skills, HR personnel on disability inclusive employment and training instructors on disability inclusive skills system. Skills development, Job matching, employment support services etc will be given online.
4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?
Developing a online job portal for young people with disabilities is absolutely a new idea in Bangladesh. To get job-seekers with disabilities, training providers and employers i.e all supply and demand side actors on the same platform is unique, which enable training institutes to identify learners with disabilities, upload information of graduate with disabilities. Job-seekers with disabilities can easily upload and update their CV. Employers can choose their potential candidates from the portal. Training institutes can upload their admission circular and graduate list of young people. Identification of job-seekers, job-matching, online learning platform, addressing challenges through online are innovative and practical.

5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?
Presently, two projects are being implemented by my organization for creating employment opportunity for the young persons with disabilities. For this purpose, a stakeholders mapping has been conducted where information was collected on young persons with disabilities, employers, Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institutions. The collected information is recorded manually. Job demands with specific skills are collected from the pro-disability employers and based on their skills demand, learners with disabilities are connected with government recognized TVET institutes for providing training. After training, trained young people with disabilities are placed in different industries and organizations for employment purpose. Our approach is very effective as we are providing training as per skills demand of the employers.
5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress
Aligning SDGs, the following future-oriented skills are focused by the organization:
Computer, graphic design, house keeping, electronics, telecommunication, printing, garments design and pattern making, medical technology, automobile, mechanical, electrical, furniture making and carpenter, sewing machine operator, quality control management, English proficiency, outsourcing, different soft skills like communication, team work, problem solving, work ethic, time management, leadership etc . There will be is a specific yearly target so it is possible to measure the progress accurately.
7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?
There is no such online job portal for persons with disabilities in Bangladesh. Access Bangladesh is currently implementing two projects on creating employment opportunities for the youth with disabilities.There are some other projects on training and employment for persons with disabilities in Bangladesh. But, our proposed project to develop a digital job portal is absolutely new and different idea. Because the job-seekers identification, learners identification, linkage with TVET, job-matching etc are being done differently but the proposed project will address those through digital way.
8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
Employment generation is one of the priority activities of Access Bangladesh Foundation. Since its establishment, the organization created 156 jobs for young people with disabilities through employment focused projects. Recently, the foundation has started two employment focused projects in Bangladesh to generate formal employment for young people with disabilities. As the proposed project will be an online platform for job seekers, training institutes and employers, enrollment status of young people with disabilities in skills and employment will be increased. Proposed project will also support our ongoing employment focused projects to facilitate skills development and employment creation for young people with disabilities. Moreover, this portal will create a common interactive learning platform for learners and employees with disabilities, instructors and employers.
9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?
In the proposed project, online portal will be developed with the support of prize money and our existing staff members will be engaged to maintain the portal in the short-term. To maintain the portal, we will look for advertisement like job circular of potential pro-disability employers, admission circular of TVET institutes, commercial advertisement for generating income. For job-seekers with disabilities, the entire services will be given at free of cost but potential employers and TVET institutions will will be given services with a minimum charge which will support for sustainability of the the portal in the long term. At the same time, we will try to find funding sources to run the portal in the long term.
