1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed

On 27th of April 2015, I had a voice while walking to work telling me to start a tree nursery project- started tree nursery On 10th of May 2015, I had a dream telling me to think big because the tree nursery project was going to be big and that I should know that there are many players better than me in that field but I have been given the project the same way he gave Israelites Canaan, On the night of 23rd September 2015, I had a dream telling me to register an organization based on tree nursery project- Register Green Future Society On 5th of October 2015, I was shown a video via vision where I was being recognized for matters of trees and environment On Sunday 11 October 2015, I had the last vision to change my work to environment

2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?

Tree nursery require many hands to be successful thus one must have HR to make it succeed, however getting regular money is a challenge thus I have to work elsewhere to solicit funds to support the HR, and or save the sales during rainy season to be used when there are no or low sale, If I do not get additional funds then there will be no seedlings to be sold during rainy season

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

From experience since 2015, there are seedlings like for landscaping that are selling in all seasons but they are very expensive, therefore building a good capital base of different species of seedlings including fruits can help us to supply seedlings in all seasons and that can help pay the workers, in addition we are trying to solicit for donor funds so that as the brain child, I can get full time to manage the project without working elsewhere we also plan to expand our services to support our tree nursery sales including taking landscaping tenders and planting/ supervision of clients farms especially fruits that require attention Empowering more tree nursery farmers so we can have a good base of seedlings within our reach for all our clients

4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?

We have so far produced over one million seedlings that have bought and planted in the entire Country leading to increase in forest cover and enhancement of food security for those who have planted fruits We have trained more than 100 tree nursery farmers, some of them have started their nurseries from where they are and we have supported them in marketing We have employed more than 15 personnel, mostly widows and youth who are earning a living from our the project funds

5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?

Training on new inventions and best working practice to produce quality seedlings, this also include propagation and grafting as shown in the pictures attached We are also training our staff on landscaping and fruits management in farms to be able to offer services outside the nursery sites

5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress

We are focusing on service delivery not just producing seedlings and managing static tree nursery site We have experienced supervisors who oversee the progress of skills for our workers, we have a checklist that we are using in monitoring as well as self assessment and feedback We also have regular meetings to give feedback of progress of our skills and best placement of staff based on where they are good at

6. Financial capability: how is your organization or project creating innovative solutions that arm people with ability to optimize their current and future financial health

With growth of the project, when we get good sales then we give extra allowances to our staff but we also encourage our members to diversify and have alternative personal venture that they can lay their hands on we also do table banking among the workers where their savings by the end of the year is helping them to develop at personal level

6a. Please describe what aspect of financial capability your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress.

Table banking and direct saving, we have given ourselves a target on what we have to establish within each year and all of the workers are up to the task, this was started this year in 2020 thus we shall have feedback by end of the year

7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

there are so many tree nursery farmers and people that so the same but us we are offering a full package of service from awareness on social media and forums including those seeking direct advise at planting, we offer education on how to plant trees, when to plant trees and how to plant them including which trees are favoured by ecological features

8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

We have so far produced over one million seedlings that have bought and planted in the entire Country leading to increase in forest cover and enhancement of food security for those who have planted fruits We have trained more than 100 tree nursery farmers, some of them have started their nurseries from where they are and we have supported them in marketing We have employed more than 15 personnel, mostly widows and youth who are earning a living from our the project funds

9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

Building seedling stock to increase market Soliciting for donor funds to help us increase the scope Establishment of fruit farms to help us get other income The three will be able to help us solve both short term, medium and long term

10. Team

We have 15 regular workers (6 regular and 10 plus non regular workers) We have 2 academically trained both in agriculture and forestry, and the rest have undergone on job training and capacity building and depending on their performance in various fields, we have made them to specialize on certain areas from seedbed preparation, irrigation, maintenance of grown seedlings, grafting among others and that is the direction we would wish to keep

Help Us Support Diversity! Are you a member of an under-served , under-represented, or marginalized group in your country of residence? (yes/no) (this question is optional – if you choose to fill it out, the response will not be shared with your fellow contestants)

If you selected “yes” to any of the categories above, please explain how being a member of this group has impacted you and your work?

I have establish an office in our family land after undergoing financial difficulty in keeping an urban office, my husband comes from another clan different from where the project is based thus a lot of unnecessary intimidation and destruction from the locals I am venturing into a men dominated field that it takes people time to believe that you can do what a man can do, being a member here will expose me more to the public internationally so they can believe that women can also make it

How did you hear about this challenge?
