1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed
When I was a student, we always heard that the education system is poor and we cannot accept Spoon-feeding education anymore. When I entered the job market and helped to hire new staff, people complaint that our young people are not innovative and their ideas are borning. Then, I feel struggled. Then I discovered that there is a mismatch between the market expectation and education. We use a boring education system to teach them but we expect them to be innovative. When they are young, we don't allow them to break the rule, and we expect they can think out of box. That's why we started to teach them new skills outside the education system. It takes long time to change the education system but we can do much bigger impact outside the system.
2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?
For employability, the problem is that those essential skills are unmeasurable and not teaching in school. Whats are those skills? According to The University of Syndey, they are Communication, Teamwork, Problem-solving, Initiative and enterprise, Planning and organizational, etc. Which subject can teach? How can a company measure these skills in an interview? That's why we do social entrepreneurship skill training and connect with corporate.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
1. Innovation Challenge
A 2-days programme to train the students' skill and connect with the corporate sector. It helps corporate to develop CSV (Creating Shared Value) idea and engage with potential talent for their company. In the programme, we will make use the Lean Design Thinking tool, which is developed by ourselves.
2. Lean Design Thinking tool
It is a tool helps participants to execute design thinking. Design Thinking is about a mindset change. However, it takes a long time to change someone's mindset. By combining the Lean method, Lean Design Thinking tools brings the participants a step by step experience. They can execute fast and learn from failure.
3. Online Collaboration Platform
ImpactX Plus is an online collaboration platform to foster the co-creation. By digitalizing the Lean Design Thinking tool and building an online community, they can work together easily and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?
We developed our own Lean Design Thinking tool which a step by step tool to develop an idea from 0 to 1. After several trial workshops, participants can experience the idea creation journey in just 2 hours and come up with innovative ideas and work as a team. During the workshop, their skills are improving and learn something cannot be taught in the classroom. Also, for the corporation, it is a new way to engage with talents and they can find a suitable talent which is different from an interview.
5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?
We use the Lean Design Thinking tool, hands-on workshop, real business case & connection to develop their social entrepreneurial skills. They cannot learn from the existing education system but it is essential to future job market. During the workshop, they will work as a team and develop a CSV idea for the corporation. In this experience, they have to be human-centric and innovative. Also, real collaboration with corporations brings them opportunities to engage with the HR person.
5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress
social entrepreneurial skills are our focus. It is about Leadership, Optimism, Grit, Resilience in the face of failures, Creativity and innovation, Empathy, Emotional and social intelligence. It cannot be measured by the quantitative method, but we believe it can be measured by the qualitative method. By conducting one-to-one dialogue and self-evaluation, we can understand the progress and outcome.
7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?
There are other private institute and NGO who do social entrepreneur trainng. However, we developed our own tool and also connecting corporation as talent engagement and CSV opportunity. That's why we are special in the market.
8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
We conducted more than 20 workshops, engaged with more than 400 participants.
9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?
In short term, our revenue model is that we charge for service fees and management for each project. In the long term, we will improve the online co-creation platform and charge the corporate customers a monthly subscription fee to use the platform, for creating new challenges and do impact management.
Two co-founders in the team, Cyron focus on programme development and Kia focus on business development. Cyron is an experienced design thinking trainer and also a start-up coach. Kia is experienced in e-commerce and event management. When the project grows, we will expand the facilitator team and IT team for platform development.
