1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed

Considering the geographical location of our country, which is the Philippines, it is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire thus making us prone to natural hazards like earthquake. Resulting for our to team came up with an idea of developing a mobile application that aids to help people during the occurrence of natural hazards and other emergency cases. However, we have considered the range of the system, with that we have finally came up with idea of developing an Android application that would help to quickly respond an emergency within the university.

2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?

There are a lot of circumstances that we can encounter which happens beyond our control and expectation that can cause damage and risk people's lives that is considered as an emergency. In addition, having the "right at the right time" is not observed during an emergency which hinders the response team to carry out a rescue quickly and effectively.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

Filling the gaps using an innovative, localized and operational technology, we found a way on how to help alleviate and prevent the severe emergency cases to happen. This application is developed to improve the coordination of action and response, and sharing of the university's resources to different departments in order to help save more lives.

4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?

The advances in smartphones have changed the way we live today as it brought improvements in our lives, initially focusing on our personal needs. Inside a university, most of the students own a smartphone. It gives convenience to everyone and became an inseparable part of our daily lives. Smartphones together with the internet are changing the way we communicate and handle things around us. For the students, it would be convenient for them to report an incident through the application rather than reporting the incident directly to ask for assistance. It is also beneficial among responders as the information about the incident is already provided through an SMS alert generated by the application for them to carry out an action immediately.

5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?

Our project will provide trainings and seminars or workshops to enhance our people's skills in line with the technology-related topics such as programming and designing. We can also tie up to different training centers for us to conduct the development of our people's skills for future use.

5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress

The future-oriented skills will help our team foster the development and improvement of the application. These skills are cognitive flexibility, social skills, interpersonal communication skills, and technology skills, which can be measured by the quickness and how proper the execution of response took place. Microlearning and employees retention will also be considered. These expertise are essential for the future employees to develop their work ethics and improve the mission or goal of the project, which is to quickly respond to certain emergencies that might happen within the university.

7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are other existing application that only notifies and give awareness about the users with regards to a predicated disasters that might happen or giving tips and things to do during a certain incident, this technology focuses on giving an immediate action once a report was sent by the user. With this, it could lessen the possibilities of different emergency cases and help improve the emergency assistance of the institution.

8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

Being in a startup stage wasn't easy as there are a lot of things to consider before pursuing. Due to the limited time and resources, our product is still on the stage of improvement and is open for suggestions from other innovators. Utilizing this application up until the future will benefit not only the university but also its people. In addition, adopting our product will help us upgrade and innovate more for a better society.

9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

Our team funded the capital for the development of the project. Assuming that the application was purchased in the market, the profit will be used to fund a new project for the money to circulate in the long term run. As a back up plan, in case that it would take time for the application to be purchased, we plan to make a business partnership to those who are willing to fund for the future start-ups.

10. Team

Our team is made up of Senior High School students together with our coach, who is a professor in the university. With that, through the help of the university department, our team will be guided and supported to amend the idea that we presented through the mobile application, QUILOS, and help find the right people suitable for the project.
