1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed
In 2013, I had the unique opportunity to take part in the Jagriti Yatra, a 15-day train journey around India with 450 youth selected on their willingness to “be the change they want to see in the world”. Every day, we met incredible role models who have transformed the lives of millions of people, all around India. I was really transformed by this experience. It really gave me the strong belief that “the impossible is temporary”, especially regarding to social and environmental issues, and that everyone can be a changemaker. At this time, I promised myself I will do my best to adapt this concept of experiential learning to raise changemakers to France. That was the beginning of Ticket for Change!
2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?
Our society is facing urgent and important challenges. 94% of French people want to contribute to solve social and environmental problems but only 6% do it by their work. We work 80 000 hours in our life. The job we do has a big impact on the world but a majority of individuals do not use their work and potential to help solving these issues. This is what we call : Talent waste.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
Our vision is that everyone's talents can change the world, everyone can use his talents to make the world a better place and especially through our jobs.
Our mission is to activate talents to solve our societal problems. We help people to take action and use their professional life to make a positive difference, in France and beyond.
We have 3 main activities to help changing the system:
1.A Movement to raise awareness and change mindsets about “impact-driven careers” (the media, events, advocacy…)
2.Trainings to raise a new generation of Changemakers (7-week MOOC, 2-days program to become a Changemaker, 6-months program for social entrepreneurs...)
3.Tailored programs to change the system from the inside, for Corporations, public sector and schools (social intrapreneurship programs in companies, learning expeditions for leaders, adaptation of our tools, open source…). We have developed a unique pedagogy to help individuals discover.
We create transformational experiences, accessible to as many people and organizations as possible. Our goal is to provide them the mindset, energy, tools and communities to change the world through work.
4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?
Different methods and solutions to help people find meaning in their professional life exist but none of them take into consideration the positive impact-driven career. Our approach is unique because :
1-we help people identify an idea and take action,
2-all projects/jobs we support are positive impact-driven,
3-we accompany people rather than projects,
4-our pedagogies are soft-skills-oriented (head-heart-body approach),
5-we have e-training and classroom-training sessions
6-we design the programs to make them accessible to the greatest number,
7- we work hand in hand with the ecosystem of social innovation,
8-we support social & business initiatives: "no impact without business, no business without impact".
(Instructions for questions 5 and 6, no answer required) Please only answer the question (5 - “employability” or 6 - “financial capability”) that applies to your organization’s topic of work (see below for definitions)
5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?
We all face the social and environmental transition, but our workplace is not ready today. We need to invent new jobs and transform existing jobs,in every sector (from manufacturing, energy,to banking sector, etc.),so that these jobs take into account these challenges. These transformations require completely new skills and mindset:Sustainability requires key competencies such as:Systems thinking,Self-awareness,Collaboration,or Critical thinking - It also requires a new mindset : OECD says “Education is no longer about teaching students something alone.” This leads to a total transformation of the way we educate, train and develop people for the workplace. And that’s what we have been doing with Ticket for Change the last 6 years. We have developed a unique pedagogy to help individuals discover their talents and how they can use their professional life to have a positive impact on the world.
5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress
We inspire, empower, train people to develop the right skills and mindset,to become sustainable Changemakers. The entrepreneurial mindset and attitude is at the heart of all our programs. We foster skills, values, and attitudes:critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, flexibility, leadership, initiative, productivity, social skills, self-awareness, problem-solving, caring, boldness, etc. How do we measure progress ?- continuous performance assessment with satisfaction rate - yearly impact assessment through surveys sent to all our beneficiaries after attending one of our programs.
7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?
We collaborate with impact-driven players:
-social businesses which show that it is possible (Vitamine T), non-profit organisations which help building this new positive economy (MakeSense, Ashoka) and social entrepreneurs who develop projects
-Government initiatives which put in place policies in order to develop social innovation(French Impact)
-Funding and supporting structures for helping entrepreneurs find funds and support them in their project development (Investir &+)
We act at different stages, target different publics, use a different approach, our approaches are complementary.
8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
We invest in Entrepreneurs, Individuals, Corporate Changemakers to change the system.
Our main programs are a 6-month pre-incubation program and a 7-week MOOC created with HEC Paris. These programs have contributed to creating 1400 social entrepreneurship projects, then creating 1200 jobs.We are very proud of our success stories, like Yuka, Meet my Mama, Les Petites Cantines (Ashoka Fellow 2020),etc.
We propose podcasts, books, events and 2-day seminars to help individuals discover their talents, the cause on which they want to make a contribution, in order to find a “job with impact”. In the last 2 years, 25000+ people have participated in these programs.
3- Corporate Changemakers
In 6 years, we have worked with 40 companies impacting 2000 people just last year. 80+ social intrapreneurship projects have emerged.
9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?
We have an hybrid business model, today our funds come from 60% donations coming from various entities such as companies, foundations, public grants, individuals philanthropists; and 40% from revenues through our commercial structure Corporate For Change, fully detained by our organization. Our plan in the next coming years is to transform our business model to 70% revenus - 30% grants. How do we plan to achieve this ? 1) Self-funding and certification of our programs 2) developing our service offer through Corporate for Change 3) A business model for each program
We have built long-term and trusted partnerships with a number of organizations which continue supporting us from the beginning of Ticket for Change.
