1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed

Our journey started in 2013 as a university club focusing on teaching creativity as we found ineffectiveness in the Indonesian educational system that is not focusing on changing Mindset. Bootcamp for Young Technopreneurship (BYTe) was first conducted in 2013 for high school students. We give scholarship to selected recipients. They will immerse with the locals, tried their hands in their SMEs, and identify the challenges or problems in the process before innovating by creating prototype as solutions for the SMEs. Through Bootcamp for Young Technopreneur, scholarship recipients will have learned how to solve problems and becoming a lifelong learner while SMEs and the locals are also leveraged in terms of finance and practice.

2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?

Indonesia is currently preparing for both opportunity and challenge in demographic bonus during 2030-2040 which predicts that approximately 64% from 297 million population is categorized in productive range. The conclusion to the end of the problem is determined by ultimately the human capital development. we found out that the problem roots from ineffectiveness in Indonesian education because the focus is not on changing Mindset.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

We focus on designing an ecosystem and our practices are human-centered. As mentioned before, our strategy is to first develop human capital. Each individual and organization goes through a gradual process from empathy; capable of identifying and creating value; having developed right Mindset, Skillset, Toolset and enough experience to do the design themselves; and finally prepared to embrace technology as a utility. Regardless of expertise and background, everybody can contribute to solving problems where they can. These agents of change or the output of our programs are who we call History Makers (we hope that their actions will mark a better world). One of our programs is Bootcamp for Young Technopreneur (BYTe) designated for individuals in higher education level to become agents of change in their location and area and leveraging SMEs through innovation knowledge transfer. Specifically, BYTe focuses on the development of PhISeS skills (Physical, Intellectual, Socio-Emotional, and Spiritual skills) and empathy (Individual, Group, Societal) through the range of its activities.

4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?

Our approach is holistic and designed to include one into a part of the solution through measurable steps. Individuals are guided to understand themselves. Doing so will shape their Mindset or the capability of seeing how the world works. Meanwhile, experiencing discovery themselves will develop their Skillset (behaviour towards challenges) and Toolset (ability to judge which approach is best applied to challenges), escalating their thinking scope. By then, a History Maker will have undergone a transformation of thinking scope from thinking Effectiveness or how to rethink, reinvent, or recreate thinking Relevance or being able to judge usefulness, value, meanings within a context and finally thinking Value Creation to being impactful.

5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?

We focuses on introducing the right Mindset and nurtures empathy. Then learners introduced to Value Identification and subsequently Value Creation, which is the part they develop their Skillset and understanding which Toolset to use in approaching different challenges. BYTe is located on both conceptual and practical area. The recipients are first introduced to Design Thinking and Design Ethnography with an attention to empathy. They then are invited to taste the entirety of SMEs business process, usually producing crafts or foods. Immersion with the locals will develop their contextual sense which will help them collecting data and identifying problems. By then, they will have sufficient supports to create a solution and built into prototype. Their solutions will also be presented directly to the SMEs and judges, allowing knowledge transfer and improvement for real-life application.

5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress

Through a bootcamp for young technopreneur (BYTe) for four days and three nights the participants will be upgraded as: empathy, creative thinking, analytical thinking, problem solving, problem solving, problem solving. To achieve this we divide the conceptual and practical. In the conceptual part, participants will see their progress before and after following the bootcamp in understanding the context in the design and awareness of the issues around it. Meanwhile, participating participants will participate in this competition. SMEs and collaboration formed between participants.

7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

We deliver a holistic and human-centered approach in each of our programs. That means we keep on improving the programs to fulfill the best-fit solution. We also make sure that our programs are integrated with one another. By doing so, we believe that the impact can be accelerated more effectively.

8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

With Design Ethnography and Design Thinking approach, BYTe was designed to create more social innovations by the scholarship recipients, undergoing experiential learning and discovery learning themselves. Until present, BYTe has resulted in 43 social innovations that addresses various 18 SMEs challenges and problems with 209 selected scholarship recipient from more than 1,000 applications all around Indonesia. In the process, BYTe has been integrated with our #Earthvenger campaign, resulting in 8,000 participations and impressions in campaigning ways to contribute to the Earth (socially and environmentally).

9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

BYTe project stands under the flag of Sociopreneur Indonesia as an organization, our funding channel consists of grants, donors, partnerships, and revenues. For the short and medium-term, we have been fortunate enough to be able to build partnerships with grants from the CIVICUS World Alliance and Indika Foundation. We have been partnering with NGOs, NPOs, Government, and Private Companies to ensure sustainability. Finally, as a social enterprise, we need to be financially stable in order to help the project to be implemented. Therefore, we conduct consulting to support our long-term sustainability plan which is also the main source of our income.

10. Team

We administer the lean and agile management process in our team of 10 people. It allows us to build a fast pace and robust foundation in building partnerships, collaborations, and project implementation. The organizational structure of the project consists of the advisor, partnership team, project officers, and project impact and monitoring evaluation. For impact acceleration plan, we always involve volunteers and currently, we are working with several interns.
