1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed

With the world become more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous people are looking for ways to be future-fit and new ways to earn an income and find new ways of learnin so that they are not left behind. One of our solutions is our Drone immersion, which is one of our immersive learning programmes offered in our Tech-Ed curriculum which is one of our components of our life long learning ecosystem. In the short term, our tech-ed immersive learning curriculum provides an alternative way of learning to help shape mindsets and retain knowledge better. Edgar Dale's research found out that after two weeks the brain retains 10% of knowledge retained over text, 20% retained over audio and 90% retained over physical and immersive learning.

2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?

Education hasn't changed for the past couple centuries, or even decades. and we are trying to find new ways in which people can learn and retain knowledge, and prepare them for this ever changing environment. What we are trying to solve here is the way individuals apply this knowledge to solve their problems. Second of all, introducing new and creative ways to attain transferable skills.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

e-Mfundi is a 'future-fitness' company and we change mindsets through our flagship product, The Drone Immersion. We use drones as a learning vehicle to touch on certain learning outcomes for businesses such as : 1. High performance teams. 2. Key principles of problem solving. 3. Understanding the lean methodology to improve the quality of growth in your organization. Why drones? we believe in future fitness, we love to use different technologies as tools of learning to expand the human mind. The delegates learn how to build and fly a drone from the ground up which helps them get a better understanding of Drone technology and its potential uses to solve problems in the delegate's industry, organisation, or community. From a grassroots level this technical understanding of how to build and fly a drone inspires a shift in imagination, which in turn shifts mindsets and can help children build careers of the future. At a corporate level this technical understanding of a drone enables delegates to spot ways to use drones to increase efficiency or productivity in their organisation. Our solution is different as we use emerging technologies as a teaching tool to understand soft skills.

4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?

1.Our solution is different as we use emerging technologies as a teaching tool to understand soft skills. 2.Our solution has a combination of on-site services, software, hardware and content to ensure a holistic learning experience is taking place and not the standard education delivery method. 3. Our measurement for successful learning is resulted based and not test based. Due to lean methodology, the candidate is only successful once they are able to produce a good that is positive for the organisation/community and not based on his personal test score.

5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?

The education system as we know it to date has been primarily focused on building skills in the fields of language, arts, mathematics and science in order to qualify students for existing jobs. However, in todays’ fast evolving, technology standardised world, the future of occupation is changing. Thus calling for more skills training such as critical thinking, problem-solving, persistence, collaboration and curiosity. All too often we find that students are not sufficiently equipped with these skills. education technology can be uniquely deployed to facilitate the teaching of the 21st-centurys’ most coveted skills such as communication, creativity, persistence and collaboration. To thrive in today’s innovation-driven economy, individuals need foundational skills like literacy and numeracy, they need competencies like creativity and character qualities like persistence and initiative.

5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress

Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to change continuously throughout an individual's life. Understanding the Brain through Neuroplasticity, allows e-Mfundi to decipher which stimuli and pedagogies to apply for optimal learning. We believe in future-fitness, and in the use of different technologies as tools of learning that would aid in training and expanding the human mind.

7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Theres many organizations which focus on individual coaching, mentorship as well as corporate education. our approach is unique, as we have a different approach in learning. By using edutech, we couple education and technology, exposing individuals and organizations to new technologies, and have a different learning approach.

8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

At a corporate level, we have helped multinationals like Duke Ce in introducing immersive learning experiences to their curriculums for their clients. We have worked with big banks, telco's and mining companies. at a csi level we launched a new initiative called #MillionYoungMinds , where we democratize 4th IR education, AI and concepts. the aim of the event with Sophia the robot in South Africa was meant for 500 corporates , called Davos of Human Capital. We as eMfundi, had a separate event with 300 children from disadvangted and unprivileged schools. Here they were exposed to new ideas of technology, robotics as well as AI as a whole. This event was also live streamed to a million kids in rural areas and townships. How we achieved this, was get technical teams to set up watch parties at schools and in communities, for the rest of the country to see and to be exposed to such.

9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

currently, we are self funded. We rely holy on our clients. in order to make this sustainable, we would need long term contracts, as well as a scalable model, this would be through the development of our app. With our app, it would allow for a subscription base, as well as a license, because some of the learning outcomes and approaches are unique to use. a tool we use to monitor progress is the app, it has an embedded learning management system which tracks the continuous learning of the individual and monitors the activity of the learner regards to the mindset shift goals they place on the app.

11. Bring it to life: Please walk us through a concrete example of how your solution will solve the problem you’re trying to address

The problem we are trying to solve is how to identify team players and high pressure workers before they enter or leave your organisation. The H.R manager will put all candidates in a room and ask them to form themselves in groups. She will further provide an explanation of the importance of team work in the company culture and set a task for each group to build a lego drone within their groups for 30 minutes, this is stage 1. In this stage the H.R manager needs to carefully watch each group on how they allocate roles, how they communicate to each other and each member’s behaviour in regards to their task. Once the 30 minutes are finished, the H.R manager needs to see which groups were able to build the drone with the instructions provided and record their times. The team that builds the drones in the fastest time usually indicates a high performaning team.

12. Skills Matching: HSBC Employees will have the opportunity to offer skilled-volunteering. If matched, which of the following skills would you be most interested in receiving?

100% earned income.

14. Financial Sustainability – please tell us more about how you plan to fund and scale your project over the next 12 months.

The bulk of our funding will come from earned income (product or services sales, licensing, franchising, consulting, financing, etc.) - with an expected percentage of 80% and 20% from corporate contributions.

15. Growth Strategy: What are your main strategies for scaling your impact?

We would like to do more Drone immersions at organisations as a skills development for staff. We are also in the process of creating a lifelong learning ecosystem and it will be able to track learning and mindset shifts using brain computing interface technology.

16. Activating changemakers: How are you giving people the power to control their own destiny and support other people to become changemakers in their communities?

By enabling individuals to be exposed to emerging technologies we look to change people's mindsets to be future focused which will enable individuals to take advantage and lead initiatives around the 4th Industrial Revolution.

17. Awards & Recognitions: What awards or recognitions, if any, has the project received so far?

Awarded leading 4th IR start-up in South Africa by Legazy in collaboration with SEDA (Small Enterprise Development Agency)

18. Tell us about how collaborations and partnerships would enhance the scalability and impact of your project

We would like to partner with all custom education providers and business schools to create a distribution channel for the drone immersion. We feel that custom education providers and business schools already have great relationships with H.R managers.

We in the process of formalising a partnership with a Brain computing interface company that manufactures hardware and software that enables us to track brainwaves and mindsets.

Finally - Your Selfie Elevator Pitch: Share a 1-minute video that shares a quick summary of the problem you would like to solve, how you’ve chosen to solve it, and the impact you hope to see.
