1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed

I’ve been working to generate a transformative education for years to give real answers to the people. Around the schools there is a life that many times the school does not discover. Why don’t we join strongly to the schools with the worker networks of the social economy and popular so we can promote markets and opportunities? We are facing a very powerful idea. Let’s go for it!

2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?

When formal employment is lacking, it is necessary to find other answers to respond to the urgencies of life, particularly in the poorest sectors of society. There is an awareness that the Social and Popular economy is a great opportunity for thousands of people to face this situation and give answers that today the formal spaces cannot solve. We want to link the educational community with local social and popular economy networks.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

We must work in two equally important lines: * Generate a cultural change that leads the educational community - and therefore the entire society - to prioritize the purchase from the producers of the social and popular economy (producers of food, clothing, different types of services, etc.) from the communities themselves. * Generate methodologies and technological supports to make it possible (both in dissemination and marketing mechanisms.)

4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?

Imagine a school that, on the one hand, promotes and values the workers of the social and popular economy, encourages students who want to dedicate themselves to this way of working and producing, but also… buy what is produced to the circuit of their community in that social and economic ecosystem. Students, parents and teachers, prioritize in their consumption what comes from these producers. All this energizes the local market and strengthens exchange and commerce, boosting development in the community. Why is this innovative? Because nobody is doing it with a specific methodology and teaching to achieve it.

(Instructions for questions 5 and 6, no answer required) Please only answer the question (5 - “employability” or 6 - “financial capability”) that applies to your organization’s topic of work (see below for definitions)

5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?

Within our pedagogical proposal we want students to do service learning activities with local producers and generate dissemination, marketing and articulation tools to enhance these experiences. At the same time, that they know the labor possibilities that the social and popular economy can offer them.

5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress

Fundación Voz must strengthen its internal capacities to develop this initiative. Basically, from strengthening their support and guidance teams in the territories and their articulation with existing social and popular economy networks, both nationally and internationally.

6. Financial capability: how is your organization or project creating innovative solutions that arm people with ability to optimize their current and future financial health

Our organization does not intend or want to work alone in this project. Our greatest experience and capacity is working with the education system. We will surely have to partner with other organizations that have capabilities in the world of the financial skills required to accompany market mechanisms. It will be necessary to work very well in the networks (dissemination) and in mechanisms that enable marketing (postnet) and other tools.

6a. Please describe what aspect of financial capability your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress.

See answer to question 6.

7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

It is possible to find several organizations that work on the theme of Social and Popular Economy in our country today. Some from more "technical" places others, from social movements. However, there are no organizations that consider bringing this theme to the schools. To arrive there is to guarantee a capacity of scale and arrival to the territories that is much superior to other approaches. That's what we bet on this initiative. The VOZ Foundation has been working hard with many jurisdictions in the country, which guarantees a powerful scale up in many territories.

8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

From our perspective of scale, interventions have to be simple, economical, powerful ... in order to be replicated. The design of our operation is. As we said, there is an impact to be achieved that occurs at the "cultural" level: A society that is changing its consumption habits and directs its options. The impact that student participation has had on environmental change is known throughout the world. We will try to make something similar happen with respect to the social and popular economy. We have started work in five territories and we have begun to see the first fruits of this work. But you have to achieve even more. And we trust the potential of our proposal.

9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

We need to start the project with visibility and success so that afterwards the support and interest is taken by public policy based, above all, on the impulse that the different municipalities of the country can give it. We aim at that.

10. Team

Initially, the team consists of two people with expertise in social and popular economy and knowledge of actors and external recognition. In each school two referents (a teacher and a worker of the social and popular economy) who work as a team are chosen. The growth of the initiative will make the team believe in a reasonable way.
