1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed

My name is Sheila Harkatz. I was born in Argentina, but at 19 I left to the US where I studied, worked, and gave birth to 2 children. Then, I moved to Mexico City in 2014 due to my husband´s work: After 3 and a half years of expatriation due to my husband´s job, we decided to go back to Argentina, about 16 years after I left, and I had to reinvent myself. Hence, even though I worked in Education and Training &Development all my life, I decided to start studying coding. That was the AHA moment: I got invited to a JP Morgan Mediachicas Fintech Hackathon for Women inclusion purposes, and I won the first prize with a web based financial educational platform idea for women, and I blasted off.

2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?

Women are less included in finance and financial decisions than men. That leads to less autonomy and less decision power. That leads to women poverty and lack of opportunities to improve their lives and take on powerful decisions to lead their lives where they want to be, and could lead to gender economic violence on women. We must solve this issue so that girls and women are able to lead their lives and achieve their goals, and end poverty.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

Mujeres en Carrera is the solution to the lack of information and training dedicated to women and girls on finance, saving, and investment, taking into account that public and private education in Latam and the Caribbean does not yet offer curriculum financial education in general terms. To support the closing of this gap, Mujeres en Carrera offers micro modules of training content on budget, tracking expenditures, how to invest in property, stocks, bonds, being used as triggers for women’s financial education, where you will not only see content, but also stories that inspire and make you think about other women who undertake, or who have encountered challenges in managing their money and how to grow it, more interviews with women who are now in financial roles. It also includes interviews with women in financial roles in different entities that promote the inclusion of women in finance from the professional side as well.

4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?

We use research based education methodologies in elearning to trigger interest in finance, and take on financial education to think of finance and economics as a possible career and/or tool to change women´s lives. As an example, one of our community members messaged us telling that she was looking for a job, and she was in a very bad financial situation. We created a highlight on social network Instagram on tips to improve your life and income through interviewing a Recruiting specialist that provided with steps to create a good Resume and what to include in a Linkedin Profile. She was extremely thankful that we offered this information free of charge, and she mentioned the information provided was worth "gold".

6. Financial capability: how is your organization or project creating innovative solutions that arm people with ability to optimize their current and future financial health

We are creating innovative solutions through providing free of charge micro module content that is animated and in video format. Moreover, content is created in simple language so that everyone can understand. We will also launch original children literature related to savings, and entrepreneurship to optimize future financial health of girls that are currently in their early childhood years, but this will allow to equip them with financial literacy from the early beginnings of their lives, creating a positive impact in their present and future decisions.

6a. Please describe what aspect of financial capability your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress.

We focus on saving, budgeting, investing, empowering women to take on financial responsibility and decisions, and building a solid business culture inside themselves. We plan to measure this through surveys, research on population served, and feedback from our subscribed followers on the web.

7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Finanzas Fem offers financial education BUT for adult women and it is face to face. Also, gestión UP offers some online courses related to accounting, but not focusing on gender based finance or matters related to girls increasing their financial and live possibilities. Girl Rising offers face to face girl empowerment workshops for high school children, but is limited in location because they do not offer online opportunities. Mujer Financiera offers online and f2f courses for adult women only, but very focused on investing. In Mujeres in Carrera we focus on building financial attitudes

8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

We reach almost 400 women with our mailings every time. We have done 4 workshops face to face with great attendance. For example, 50 people signed up for the women finance and legal rights workshop, where many women came in and one father came in with his daughter so that she could learn about women possible life cycles, and the impact of life on their assets. We have 1360 followers on Instagram, and 140 in out VIP chat on whatsapp.

9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

Right now I need about 30,000 dollars to create an online business and finance academy for women and girls on the platform In the middle run I want to expand to other places of Latam and the Caribbean and Spain, and I will need 70,000 dollars for this expansion for advertising, generating identity events, pay for travel, and pay more SMEs for content creation under a web series that will make the case for each of the courses. Long term, 100,000 dollars to hire personnel and continue growing the course offerings.

Today: Sheila Harkatz is full time founder and el-earning director and developer, taking over marketing, sales duties, networking, and workshop and web based learning design and development. Part time: Business Mentor, Demian Donzis, MBA, Award winning argentinean entrepreneur Abigail Levy, Graphic Designer; Elena Hutin, Accountant and MA in Leadership, her focus is on expertise. We also have people that act as experts in different topics. I will grow the team with Instructional designers

I am an argentinean woman, resources are always short here. Funding support is short as well, and being a women as limited me to get good jobs after living 16 years abroad and back to Latam, because recruiters discriminated about motherhood and work. Hence, I started my own project and I am doing all so that women can work and live the life they want to live through their financial empowerment.
