August/ 2019 The name of the non-profit is Kings and Queens. The idea seeks to provide practical hands on skill training by videoing industry esperts, analytical, problem solving skills Currently, a social enterprise is being registered in order to leverage the business side of making the skills, re-skilling and upskilling idea into a sustainable venture. The long term plan is to create an online academy accredited with the relevannt skills body that will allow people to pay a minimal fee

1. Founding story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the founder(s) to get started or the story of how you saw the potential for this to succeed

The potential of seeing this as a viable business started when the founders were constantly providing training in their relevant jobs as well as people approaching them to tutor them sepertaely. This resulted in the Aha moment as we understood that some of our hard skills such as; Risk Management, Sales above target, Monitoring and Evaluation were incredibly sort out for working professionals. Furthermore, It was eveident that people were willing to meet over coffee to be guided through soft skills and life skills such as negotiation, time management and efficiency. We decided to then share these skills to young people in a way that we can marry labour skills such as Artisans, Beauty to hard skills to enable them to become entreprenuers

2. The problem: What problem surrounding employability or financial capability are you helping to solve?

More than 10 million people in South Africa are unemployed, or 38.5% of people who could be working but are not working (2019,stats s.a). This figure has a larger youth representation. One of the reasons given for this is a surplus of especially unskilled and low-skilled job seekers as a result of poor education and training. Therefore the solution of providing skills at various levels is the answer that enivetibly leads to job creation.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

Our specific approach is to provide a step by step mentorship skill program that aims to provide; labor, hard and soft skills to young people with the end goal of opening startups that create employment. The first phase is to provide practical labor skills from our in house experts; Artisan, Tailoring, Beauty, Fashion and catering industries. These would be followed by hard skills such as; enterprise development, sales and marketing, Risk, financial and stock management training. These will be provided in a period of 6 months. All skills will be accredited with the relevant regulatory bodies in South Africa. Lastly, they will be provided with soft skills training as they are being mentored to establish their own business. The soft skills will include; negotiation skills, conflict management, and customer services. All business will be mentored for a period of 6months with continued mentoring support. In total it would be a 1 years challenge of skills culminating in a viable business. The young people will be made aware of the opportunity through social media adverts, schools and pop up booths in communities such as; Soshanguve, Hammanskraal, Tembisa, and Mamelodi as the initial.

4. How are you innovating or using unique approaches to solving the problem?

The innovation aims to change the face of learning by providing an array of skills that can be accessed online. The practical hands-on learning videos will become content that will be placed on an e-learning platform for continuous learning and revision. The sustainable aspect is that training packages will be provided simultaneously with other training for the public at large.

5. Employability: how is your organization or project teaching people to develop the skills that they need to survive in the future job market?

Share skills are deliberately providing skills that can allow a young person to create employment for themselves and others. We begin by introducing a core labor skill for those who do not have an idea about what they would like to become. After this, they are practically taught how to make it a profitable venture or business. They are being taught this practically with leading experts teaching; budgeting, break-even, return on investment marketing and sales, understanding your customer base, cost below budget services. This will be taught as a 6 months course after the practical labour skills. The labour skills are certificate level training such as; beauty, artisan work, craft making and cooking all of which have the ability to become niche business and do not require academic rigour. We aim to empower youth that are disenfranchised.

5a. Please describe which future-oriented skills your organization is focused on fostering and how you have measured / plan to measure progress

The future-oriented skills that we are focusing on are ones that are not in danger of being obsolete due to automation. Our key strategy is teaching these skills on an online e-learning academy to the public at large whilst providing them for free to young people. The skills include; problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, Monitoring and Evaluation married with data analysis, personal shopping for the retail industry/ influencer, creative thinking linked with becoming an entrepreneur, Emotional intelligence and Project management delivered with the provision of multi-culturalism.

7. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the same problem? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are more than twenty applications that responded to the Future skills thematic area. Though from the analysis we all, in the end, present a unique idea, as some suggest games or linking women and men to jobs. Our approach differs because it provides an intensive learning program that creates employment for trainees. Whilst at the same time the business model allows for sustainability as the courses pertaining to future skills are made available to the general public who could be looking to either upskill or re-skill. This would be made available on an e-learning platform.

8. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

Our project has made a difference so far as we have trained people in and out of employment in the following courses; Programme management, Monitoring, and Evaluation, Social enterprise development, proposal writing, Cost-benefit analysis, Data Analysis with Python and SPSS packages. These have been provided through evening classes. We then realized we could develop a whole framework that aimed at giving back to the youth. Realistically we have provided our skills to 55 people since last year who have paid to be trained in these subjects for a week or two and have been recipients of certificates. As we look to support young people we aim to target 150 learners each quarter with free services before our training courses are expanded as this is all inhouse capacity for now. We aim to expand the courses relevant to ensuring that we create employment and drive the skills agenda.

9. Financial Sustainability Plan. Can you tell us about you plan to fund your project and how that plan will be sustainable in the short, medium, and long term?

We will affiliate with TEVETA and other institutions as is made available on the e-learning platform. Already this is a way we have made money, we will continue with advertising to develop new customer clientele from the general public. We will also upload interactive learning material on our online e-learning platform, which requires a payment for access via youtube. We will agree on contracts with other outsourced lectures who will also be required to pay a contribution of 5% for having their course on our platform and will, in turn, be paid every time someone views their content. We will also look at a future financing model of successful young people through a pay forward scheme aimed at supporting another aspiring young person.
