What is the Name of Your Organization?

Cityflag, Inc.

What is The Mission of Your Organization?

50% of the world’s population lives in urban areas, but that will grow to 70% by year 2050, according to the UN. Urban infrastructure issues will never end. Today, governments do not have reliable communication channels, and residents face challenges with communicating urgent problems to stakeholders. Cityflag connects local governments with residents through the first social platform for city services. We’ve put to work an approximate of $12M in taxpayer dollars in city infrastructure repairs.

Why is the problem that your organization is solving important to you and your co-founders/team?

Today, the benefits of urban economies are not broadly shared among city residents. Income inequalities are on the rise, especially in our largest cities, and poverty persists despite gains in productivity. Economic mobility appears blocked for many urban residents. This is more than economic inequality—it’s economic exclusion. Moreover, today, governments do not have reliable communication channels, and residents face difficulty with communicating urgent problems to stakeholders. We believe that through the use of technology we can better identify excluded people and communities.

Please provide 1-2 examples of your product/organization making an impact on a city.

Fast forward 15-20 years. What does your organization look like? What is the impact that it's had on society?

Cityflag’s 20-year vision encompasses a large and comprehensive array of goals. From empowering people through digital products to harnessing social and urban data, to providing cities with powerful tools for building resilient cities. Cityflag will become the industry leader for innovation within the public-private sector, providing tools to cities, organizations, businesses, and people, with the goal of connecting, sharing, and collaborating in the management of public urban assets as well as government services. Our values will remain loyal in developing stronger and resilient communities.

What differentiates your organization? What makes it so that you can drive a bigger and better benefit to society than other organizations in this space?

Our organization has a multidisciplinary team composed of academics, political scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs who are experts in their field. Our co-founding members possess unique set of skills, certifications, educational and professional qualifications needed for this project. Our team of engineers have extensive experience in the government-technology space. They are experienced in building task management tools and data driven software by following a human-centered design approach. Our team has been working together for over 2 years, and we are passionate about social impact.

What is the key barrier today to your organization unlocking the maximum amount of impact on society?

When working directly with city governments, we typically encounter barriers that don’t allow the company to navigate as efficient as possible. For instance, when dealing with city government relatively slow sales cycles and robust procurement processes, we have to work on exploring innovative strategies to overcome these barriers. We’ve built new customer channels, tested customer acquisition models and optimized our products to reduce costs and focus on scalability and modularity of our technology platform solution. Another barrier is the lack of early stage urbantech investment.
