Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.
Idea (hoping to get started in the future)
1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
The reason why I decided to start this project is to help young adults spend their time more productively. This will help them be able to grow and flourish into adults.
Wasting time is the worst thing in the world. Having nothing to do results in wasting time, and unfortunately, a lot of my peers end up doing nothing by the end of the day. I believe that is because we don't have much of a choice when it comes down to doing something we find interesting and worthwhile.
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
The problem we are solving is the fact that too much time is being wasted by not having anything to do or having anywhere to go. It seems that my generation has a problem, young adults in today's world are in an interesting place. Our elders haven't gone through and grown up with what we have and therefore we're growing up in a new world, trying to find our way. We need a way of spending our time better, since we can't find much to do now.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
The reason for this business is to solve a simple problem with a simple answer
Atmosphere will allow people to use their time how they want to via an affordable monthly membership, with no contract of course.
Atmosphere will be a safe location to go, allowing young adults to meet up and enjoy their time. This, in turn, will create a close-knit community where people are able to network with one another, being able to bounce ideas off of peers (to name just one major benefit). This is beyond important. Imagine all of the people that have had amazing, revolutionary ideas but they didn't have a community that supported them, or have the help they needed.
There will be plenty of activities to do, but the community will be able to decide what they like and what they dislike, what they want to stay, or what they want to get rid of. We will have different themed nights, whether they be weekly, monthly, annually, or a one time event
One idea to start with is "local artist night," in which young artists from around the area can come by to perform a set.
A changemaker event would be another idea; the possibilities are truly endless.
4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
Since Atmosphere is technically in the idea-stage, here's a hypothetical:
Janet decides to join Atmosphere as a member. Some of her friends are already members, and she was interested in seeing what all of the fuss is about. Once she gets inside the building, she realizes that it isn't like anything she's ever seen. Her current friends are there, future friends are there, people that will make a huge impact on her life are there, and she might not even know it.
Janet has been a member for a while now.
Her grades in school have increased drastically since she's met some great people that have helped her. On top of that, the high stress levels she used to have are under control now since she has a convenient, safe place to go to when she wants.
She's loving being part of the Atmo Community Service Squad, as well as the travel club.
Plus, she's been able to save money and buy a car
5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
Atmosphere really is something special, there is nothing out there like it.
It is the start of a brand new, progressive millennial-focused and driven industry.
Giving people the choice of how they spend their time (without paying an arm and a leg) is truly amazing.
Being able to choose between lounging, relaxing, studying, playing video games, being able to volunteer in the community, or making a positive impact on the world in a convenient way is pretty hard to come by.
We also have the flexibility to incorporate any other idea, partner, or cause because that's the nature of Atmosphere.
6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
Since Atmosphere is technically in the idea-stage, here's how we'll know we're making a difference:
Being able to tell how something is making a difference is, for the most part, hard to see in the short-term. That being said, at first, change will only be able to be seen on a case to case basis, one person at a time. Although, we will know we're making a difference when our community of individuals forms into one unified community. People will be more active and more engaging. People are going to be smiling more. They'll feel motivated and actually do something about it.
As far as it goes in real life, today:
After speaking to my friends and family members, as well as strangers and acquaintances, its great that everyone believes in this idea. Everyone has agreed that in today's world, young adults need something to do or somewhere to go, since there really isn't anything out there
7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
Atmosphere has a lot coming in these next few years, and it's mostly thanks to it's scalability and flexibility.
Our first step, of course, is going to be opening a second location.
Launching a social media campaign will be a major step, creating buzz and interest.
Working with ethical marketers that we get to choose will love having a set location with guaranteed viewers.
Partnering with other companies to provide discounts for Atmosphere members will be important, preferably with local businesses.
Franchising is key. Having the ability to design your own "Atmosphere," both ambiance wise, and business wise, creates very interesting possibilities for the company all around.
8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?
Atmosphere needs a relatively simple setup and does not require too much once it's rolling.
Funding is the main resource needed. That is mostly for monetary monthly obligations, as well as initial start-up equipment.
Second most important resource needed is appropriate location, with the necessary permits required.
A membership system would need to be implemented.
Down the line, more employees will undoubtedly be needed, but not necessary at first.
Ideally, we would have a polished Atmosphere app with many purposes, including checking in, news updates, polls, etc. meaning an app developer will be necessary sooner rather than later.
Having a lawyer would be key too. That's to help with all of the fun legal stuff.
9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?
10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.
Partnering with other changemakers and young adults that possess leadership qualities are undoubtedly crucial to the success of Atmosphere.
To be a progressive company, we'll be all ears for anyone that has something to say.
Having leaders in the Atmosphere community will happen naturally, as it normally does. Being able to find these leaders is where it gets tricky, but once they're found, or if they step up to the plate, they'll be key members (or employees).
They'll be representing the customer base. Expressing their likes and dislikes, what they want to see from us.
Partnerships with charities, organizations, other companies, and the community will be a large focus.
Atmosphere isn't supposed to be just another business, it's supposed to be assistance to living a better way of life.
Being able to help the community is something a lot of people wish they could do, but unfortunately it's either too hard to get involved or too inconvenient. Being involved in the community and partnering up with charities, organizations, and other companies will allow us to have a fantastic relationship with the community, making it easier for everyone to be involved.
