1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
Future Entrepreneurs believes youth today are future leaders. Our desire is to make an impact in the lives of underprivileged youth by encouraging them to utilize their creative abilities, and give them the tools they need to start their own businesses and start their business plans. Future Entrepreneurs are stepping out to make a change in society to highlight the positive things youth are doing in our schools and in the community.
Future Entrepreneurs invited Tre Gammage, Councilmen of Hartsville, SC. and owner of Gammage Enterprises, to speak with the entrepreneurship class.
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
High unemployment is a growing problem around the world within minority neighborhoods. Our organization aims to help with the problem by giving high school students the resources required to plan and implement their business ideas. We believe students should learn the importance of financial literacy, and public speaking. Motivating youth can give them confidence and empower them for the world that awaits them after graduation from high school.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
Future Entrepreneurs works in conjunction with Florence, South Carolina School District. Our organization offers mentorship, conferences, and workshops in the Florence community highlighting how to write a business plan and how to implement a business idea. We engage students by taking them on educational field trips to local community businesses.
4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
Future Entrepreneurs every month invites business professionals in the community to speak with students in their classroom. Our business professionals include: lawyers, doctors, government officials, and financial consultants. Students have access to speakers contact information if they chose to follow up with them for questions. As an inspiring motivational speaker, I had the opportunity to visit the WPDE television station and speak on the radio with iHeart Media during an interview.
5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
Future Entrepreneurs has an original business plan and can not be compared to other programs. We are innovative thinkers who empower high school students to "think outside the box". We are the X Factor. Our overall approach to learning is to offer a hands-on innovative approach to teach youth entrepreneurship skills. Future Entrepreneurs invite business professional in our community monthly into our classrooms to share their skills and experiences and we take students on educational field trips to engage with the outside community.
6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
Future Entrepreneurs are able to impact sixty marketing and entrepreneurship students within West Florence High School. Our organization host conferences and workshops within our community. Our community events received the attention of three hundred people. Our community events highlight financial literacy, communication skills, marketing and networking. Our organization was able to receive monetary support from corporate representatives to sponsor our events.
7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
Future Entrepreneurs is in the planning stage for our annual fundraiser in the month of September 2018. We are hosting the Igniting Innovation Gala and the proceeds will be used toward educational field trips for our high school students. During the next school semester in the month of August 2018, Future Entrepreneurs will be working with middle school students to introduce financial literacy skills and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). We believe this skill set is important to be introduced before high school.
8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?
Future Entrepreneurs is a 501(c)3 organization. We receive donations from corporate representatives, family, and friends. We use the proceeds to purchase our website and for advertising for print media including: newspapers and magazine articles. Future Entrepreneurs uses advertising to connect with potential volunteers in our community. The proceeds from ticket sells are used toward the planning of our conferences and workshops, motivatal speakers, and educational field trips.

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.
Future Entrepreneurs can not stand alone. Networking and building partnerships are essential to the functionality of our organization. Future Entrepreneurs wrote a business plan and met with potential partners. We were able to build partnerships with business professionals within our community to request they speak with students and share their skills and experiences. Future Entrepreneurs have written sponsorship proposals and submitted them to potential sponsors to request monetary support for our community events. Future Entrepreneurs has partnered with school administrators to incorporate our entrepreneurship program within the high school and middle school. Future Entrepreneurs has partnered with City Council to request they speak with students. Teresa Myers Ervin, Councilwoman City of Florence, SC. will speak at our upcoming event in September.
