Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Idea (hoping to get started in the future)

1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."

2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

See video submission linked here -->

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

See video submission linked here -->

4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

See video submission linked here -->

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

I think that the multifold benefits of iStudy is one of its peculiarities. Not many other projects on here seem to address a wide range of issues as iStudy does. iStudy addresses the following issues: -Academic Support -Knowledge Retention -Collegiate Socialization (independent of the party scene and dating apps) -Normalizing academic support and redefining campus culture around studying and tutoring -Giving students a platform to sell their notes to their classmates -Free access to a support network for each of your classes

6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

So far it hasn't made a difference on the public, but this project definitely holds some intrinsic value. In drafting the operations and functions of the app, I was forced to reflect on my first year experience at college and confront my failures and mistakes and see how I could design something that would help other students circumvent some of the academic issues that I encountered. Part of it is normalizing the idea of tutoring and the idea of academic assistance. There is nothing wrong with seeking help with something that you're struggling in. I also think this app has the potential to make very serious social implications on campus culture. Being able to meet new people in a purely academic context and outside of the collegiate party scene or cringe dating apps. iStudy wants to be integrated into academic support offices across the nation--allowing school's to verify its users.

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

The next step is teaming up with one of my computer science friends to create a beta version of the app at my school, Howard University.

8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?

To bring iStudy to life, I would need a team of app designers, school sponsorship, an online platform/website, and advertisement.

2 years ago I was completely alone, but my friend recommended a dating site for me. At first, I didn’t really believe that you can meet your love on the site. but now I have been married for 2 years and happily married.

I LIKE THIS IDEA. High school students need this because my first year in college was half-half the first semester was easy because of easy classes then it got harder the following semester. IStudy has potential!

Great Idea!

Great idea! What's the timeline around getting the Beta version of the app launched? Have you and your friend begun work on what the platform will look like? I would be interested to see the concept you have envisioned.

Hi Tyler. Great idea! We should connect. I think we would be great partners for each other. I am also in the education sector and we can definitely feed off each other's ideas for better education. - Tria, Founder of Planyou

Hey, Tyler! Your video really helped me understand your concept, and I think it could really take off if you had a big enough student body. I think it would be really cool to integrate iStudy within social media platforms as well as after school tutoring centers for publics schools. I know of many middle and high school students in need of tutoring, and this would be a great way them to get plugged it, too! I know that my partner CATALYST COFFEE AND TAPHOUSE would love to integrate study sessions with you! Check us out and let us know if you ever make progress in Denver! Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the feedback! I am open to the idea of starting a Denver branch. Hopefully once we get things off the ground over here in DC, we'll be successful enough to grow out to other major cities. Great job with your project too! I love the humanism! Good luck and best wishes to you. Hopefully we will be in touch some time down the line
