Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Growth (have moved past the very first activities; working towards the next level of expansion)

1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."

We were personally made to collect rain and reuse it. When it rains tons of gallons of water can go to waste. Yes, tons of gallons. Many people think that rain drops are useless and can not be used for something good in life. M.T.C Rain has decided to create many different types of prototypes. We have built three prototypes so far but the one that we believe is our winner is our latest prototype. We were hearing in the news that many countries and states were going through rough times. Meaning that there were many hurricanes going on.Even in our community some schools are suffering of shortage in water. Our visor and us created an exercise fountain that can easily be refilled with tap water or rain water. Our further future plains in this is to take it to different schools around our community and help them out by giving them one of our very own E.F.P.3. We want to make a change in life!

2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

Many schools around my community have been dealing with shortage of water. There students have not been drinking water from their school water fountains. This is a big problem because then the students won't be able to stay hydrated. Many students can't afford their own water bottle to take to school. They only hope that there is water in the school for them to drink. This is why our team M.T.C Rain is here to help and save kids from dehydration.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

We are planing to solve this problem by adding our prototype to their schools and help them have water. We believe that our prototype will help them a lot because you simply have to fill them up with tap water or rain water. This is not only beneficial to the schools as well, this is also to help the kids stay in shape while drink water. In our future further plains we are also going to make our prototype be able to travel around different places that way we can be able to help other people around the world too.

4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

Our E.F.P.3 project is made to give out filtered water. The way our prototype works is by pumping the pump up to 40. All the pressure that is going in goes directly to the pipes which helps give that water a little push that way it can travel around and come up through the faucet. Once you are done giving it pressure you can drink the water. The pumping posses does take a while but if one person did it up to 40 then about 10 to 15 people will get to get a good drink out of it. If the pipes are empty and need water you can simply take any type of water it can even be out of the faucet and just dump it right in the hole that is provided. If there is good luck to the second person that wants water then they won't have to do all that exercise.

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

What makes our project unique is that in order to get the water you have to work for it. Other emergency fountains are easy and plain. They can also easily run out of water. In some fountains it depends how much water it can hold. In our prototype it can hold about 5 to 6 gallons of water, it can also be any type of water. The water that you would put in out project doesn't really matter because we have the filter attached to it. Our project can help about a dozen people an hour, this is what makes our prototype unique and also is made for a better use.

6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

We have not been to that stage of getting our prototype out in other schools. Although we have been using it in our school. When the kids want to go get water they can easily got to the back of our teachers green house and get water from there. The rates that we get on it are fantastic. All our peers love our project and love the fact that you have to pump it in order to get the water. We also have been teaching the lower grade about how our project works and what they can use it for. They all have fun with it and enjoy it as well. Eventually we are going to get to that stage where we are going to present it to the schools, and when we do I hope they all like it and enjoy it as well.

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

We are planing to keep on going with the same prototype and making some changes here and there. We are also trying to convince our visors to put some of our projects our in the streets to help the people that always go out for a run. We are also planing to make our prototype travel to different places such as Mexico, Canada, Spain, India, China and many more places where our project will be useful.

8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?

We are working on getting some more sponsors to help us out. We are also looking for principles from other schools to help us out. We have been making contacts to many more people such as Mr. Yun, to some other team sponsors. We also want to great a go fund me to help out the schools that need help with their water issue and more things.

9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?

  • Friend support
  • Family support
  • Mentors/advisors

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.

Some Ideas that our group has about to get in contact with some of the change makers is by emailing them or contacting them in some way or another. We like to work as a team and we would love for somebody else to join us and hear us out about what we can do and what we can help in. We are also going to try to work with some family members and some people from our community to donate money that way we can go and help the schools that need the money. That is if they have to fix there school or just buy water.

Do you plan on putting your prototype somewhere for the public? Are you guys going to expand your project? Your project interests me the most because it deals with rain which is a very unique idea! GOOD LUCK! :)

Yes! That's our next big step in our project. Our team is planing to put our project at our local reservoir. We are also trying to upgrade our filter on getting a better one that can filter out any type of water. Such as salt water and of course tap water.
