Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.
Start-Up (first few activities have happened)
1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
I was one of those troubled kids, for a few years I went to the YMCA until they started to charge people. I had lost ever form of fun in the area. Everything cost money, that let me down a career path that was devastating to my life and I made very poor choices because of who I chose to hang around. Maine has one of the biggest drug problems and it starts with our youth. Look at what we are showing these kids. They feel hopeless because no one is there to help them or lend a hand. Everyone is about themselves and we have an opportunity to make a change In these kids lives and their kids for years to come, but not if we don't take a stand now.
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
Problem i am solving and giving the youth something to live for. A safe haven to go if they have problem at home or anywhere. Someone that will help with life skills that they can take going forward.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
A facility where its like a teen center where there are fundraising events for the community as well as events that bring more diversity and understanding to one another. We would have basketball court a potential gym. A game room, I am willing to help supply anything that's not in the budget because i feel this is needed. I would partner with the local teen center about a possible expansion. We teach kids, fundamental skills, communication skills, and job force skills.
4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
When you get involved with this group you open your heart and your mind. You put yourself in someone else shoes and see how life could be from different perspectives. Everyone that comes into contact with us will feel like they are not alone that their is a line of helping hands. You walk in and can feel the magenta. The vibe that we give off will be inspiring. We throw away our selfishness and put someone before us. When you leave you will be relax, smarter, educated.
5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
The other programs are not making a change for years to come. They are only temporarily solutions. This idea is something tmobile has never had or even offer. The impact on this would trickle across the us. John legere would become the next harold alfond. The other thing is my motivation. Whether I win this or not. A rec center will be put in waterville. I've wanted this sense I was 12. This is my dream, not just an idea.
6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
Just bringing this up to everyone in the community they think its a great idea. Maine is a beautiful state that hasn't evolved in years. Its time for a change. I've talk with diversity and inclusion at Oakland and they love the idea and would be willing to help out. Everyone around knows that it is needed.
7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
Going to the town office to buy grove street park, that is where the facility would be. I would help with building the building In the rougher part of waterville the South end. Next step maintaining a great facility with the same customer service tmobile gives off. Over time we expand the idea. We would be changing lives and with tmobile as the face of the brand.
8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?
Space, Website which I have the skills to develop. School, sponserships as well as team members. Our scholarship program will be based off volunteer hours. There for the community would be giving back and education.
9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?
Donations between $100-$1k
10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.
Every local changemaker would be able to help in this activity as well as the community it's time to clean it up. My fellow classmates would love to help in anyway possible and my family supports me. Other changemakers could work at the facility help build it.
