Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Idea (hoping to get started in the future)

1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."

I explain one of the people I have in my mind when I try to push this idea.

2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

I am trying to solve the issue of people: who have lost the ability to read or write to be able to gain those skills back, who want to use use more of their pure thoughts and type faster, who want to make public calls without people hearing them. or who want to be able to control their computers or other devices without having to use their hands. The main group that I think this might help is people in comas. DOING THIS WITHOUT A BRAIN CAP

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

My solution is to read the human neural network and try reconstructing it into a human language. This output then can be sent through any electronic form, like speakers, text, word documents, etc.

4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

Picture Stephen Hawkings. He was a man who could speaking or move because of his illness. But he could think. Think about him being able to talk without the sensor they put on his jaw or his initial device. Theory: Picture a person in a comma. The hardships their family goes through while waiting next to the bed hoping the person is okay. There has been research done that shows in cases that comas patients can think, and that nurses have been found to use eye dilation to determine whether a patient is saying "yes" or "no". This will bring so much peace to those families.

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

Currently there is no product similar on the market. This product is based on a paper I read from 40 years ago, where a lady discovered that humans still send neurons even without speaking. But because of lack of technology she stopped. After a lot of digging, we found out 15 years ago NASA and another company came up with the same idea, and proved the concept going up to 150 words. But because of a lack of technology, such as frame rate, accuracy, machine learning, and signal processing development. But with faster machines and extensive breakthroughs in research, we now have the technology.

6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

For me, I will know if my project is making a difference when I see people, specifically for medical reasons, using my product.

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

I hope to partner with other people who are passionate about this and want to work with me in developing this. As well as finding sponsors for this, since I am a college student most of my money I make is for my rent and other utilities.

8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?

I currently have friends in EE and Physics, who would be willing to put in hours into design and development. What I need is money for research development expected costs: - $400 for a high end EMG sensor(hardware) - $400 for software purchasing (I think I can skip this) - $500 for unexpected costs - I hope to work with people who wouldn't want to be paid to work. *I would like to be able to pay people so that I can get work done more efficiently. (Hard to motivate college kids without something to show how serious I am) I am going to start applying for funds through my school.

9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?

  • Friend support
  • Mentors/advisors

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.

With all the technical who want to help me I would be happy to have them help me create an open source technology. For people who aren't technical people who would like to: give me advice with starting this up, helping me test on actual patients, and getting the word out!

How did you hear about this challenge?
