Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Idea (hoping to get started in the future)

1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

Many products and brands do not share the processes and impacts they make on the agricultural or manufacturing community in which their product originates. They are secretive about how what we buy comes to us because it does not help others, only the consumer. In the long run, many big businesses are not sustainable for local and global communities. By directing consumers to be activists in the form of consumption, the future= brighter.

2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

The certified "socially/ environmentally good" brands and products on this website will make consumers feel better about the decisions. Because consumers are in a rush to buy and act based on availability and ease, this website will make it an easy choice to choose brands and products that support people and the environment. By being approved to buy on this website, it certifies the product as "socially good". By amplifying the market for conscious products, other businesses will conform to the growing movement and demand for products that help more than hurt in the long run. We sell "doing good" and reward people who want to feel good about their actions. It will also tell you how your buying decisions have affected the environment and communities and give you a rating and a way to share your goodness with others.

3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?

Three individual events inspired me to come up with this idea. Firstly, I decided to become a vegan and by being exposed to brands that were fair to the world as a whole made me more conscious of what I buy and disgusted of what we mindlessly buy. Also, I was at a convention in Alexandria, Virginia and Ryan Devlin presented about his bar- this bar saves lives. Lastly, I read articles about hous volunteerism and donations hurts poor communities because it creates dependence and does not help the economy. Veganism, exposure to socially conscious brands, and learning how charity has been mistaken inspired me to create a new approach to help poor communities and the health of the environment.

4. Selfie Elevator Pitch: Include 1-minute video that answers the following “I am stepping up to make change because...”

5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

If someone were to find our website and browse on it, they would see a bunch of products with stories behind them that they can trust and feel good about buying not just to fulfill their immediate needs. They would buy a product from our website and read about how they are such a good person for buying it and what they promoted and are part of the battle to lessen the consumption of bigger socially unconscious brands. They would recognize these products and buy them in other stores that would have a section on the package that makes it certifiable world sustainable.

6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

This is amazon for social good. This is volunteering and donating in the form of consumption, which people already do.

7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

I hope to shift the economy towards more sustainable practices and reward those with high standards for the people they impact.

8. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

Making the website and finding and sharing products that are amazing for the world.

9. Which of the following types of expertise would be most useful for you?

Hey Sydney! I love the concept for a conscious-consumer focused website. You may want to do some more marketplace research to see what’s already out there and evaluate if you could offer something new or support what’s already happening! A few websites that come to mind are: The Good Trade and Good On You. Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have actually done some market research and found out that environmental problems are what people focus on more and am already starting prototyping to reward environmentally conscious consumers. My team and I will differentiate and be 3x better than any similar solution.
