Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Idea (hoping to get started in the future)

1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

To get rid of unnecessary time spent in the hospital that could be used to help other patients who require medical attention more urgently, and to help the hospital staff become more organized.

2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

We will create a program that will allow patients and medical staff to view and edit their schedule. The schedule will allow patients to know when their appointments are, and will allow the doctors to edit the schedule based on their timing. It will also allow the patients to view info about their recovery and estimated times they have to eat, and what dietary restrictions they must abide by. This will allow the hospital patients and staff to become more organized because they can frequently edit the schedule if needed.

3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?

Two out of the four team members parents have had major medical issues in their past and present, and while in the hospital, the doctors and schedules were very unorganized. For example, the time food would arrive at the rooms and the appointment times were constantly changed and the patients and families wouldn't know about the changes which lead to hospitals being some-what unorganized and we believe that with this program, the hospitals will be able to become more organized, by allowing the staff to constantly change the times based on their needs.

4. Selfie Elevator Pitch: Include 1-minute video that answers the following “I am stepping up to make change because...”

5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

If a person or hospital was to join our program, they would receive an app or program that allows the schedules to be viewed by the patients and edited by medical staff. This schedule will show when the patients can eat, when their appointments are, and specific details about their condition. This program will allow the staff to change schedules, based on what is going on in the hospital. For example, if the doctor is running behind on schedule, the doctor will be able to quickly edit the patient's schedule, allowing the patient to be informed about the schedule change. Another example is if a patient has Type 2 Diabetes, the program will show when they can eat, information about their condition, and specific foods they can eat based on dietary restrictions.

6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

Right now, current solutions like this are very limited, and the main one used, is just a written schedule that is not consistently changed. For example, the staff sometimes write the schedule on a whiteboard in the rooms, and this schedule is not frequently changed. But our solutions will allow the schedule to constantly be changed and this will make the hospitals a lot more organized than the current solutions did.

7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

To know how we are making a difference, we plan on visiting the hospital and talking to patients and doctors about the new system. We would want the user's feedback so we can constantly improve the program. We plan on helping the hospital becoming more organized, and by doing this, it will allow the patients to be more comfortable and calm while staying at the hospital.

8. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

In about one or two years we plan on having the program designed and ready to be distributed to the hospitals that would like it. We then plan on donating most of our income back to charity. We then plan on selling the programs to more hospitals that hear about the program through other hospitals, and then we plan on getting an office space to allow more people to help develop the updates and new features.
