Date You Started Your Project Started

January 2017

Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Growth (have moved past the very first activities; working towards the next level of expansion)

1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

Many people enjoy music with mentally harmful lyrics. They enjoy drugs and abuse substances that lower their frequencies. The collective pain-body of human beings must be shifted into that of the light. Raury has founded The Woods to bring all art together in nature; art that will inspire a better tomorrow. The Woods is a catalyst for a new future that will bring youth together in a pure and healthy way for not only themselves, but the Earth.

2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

We plan to transform pieces of land throughout the country (& eventually the world) into vegan farms along with an outdoor stage on each for various (positively influential) artists to perform and express their gifts. It will be a yoga temple/sanctuary for each community to gather within. By creating this, our approach is to break free of the system (the matrix ultimately) by connecting back to our true nature. Creating a sustainable environment with hundreds of different plant species, alkaline water access for all, fruits and vegetable to trade and give access to all communities (especially those with little to no access to healthy foods), and provide a space where one can see as a therapy session. We aim to bridge the gap of separation and bring about unity through these healing atmospheric operations. We will also make it a place where children can learn and play, and be mentored by health advocates, teaching them about plants and meditation. We are creating the future, and bringing it full circle. Let us grow our own food and connect artists in nature! Art is what keeps us sane, so let us allow it to navigate our special journeys.

3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?

Raury was once in the music industry, signed to a label, and did not have 100% say in the decisions made with his own curated art (his music). He saw many things that disturbed his presence; drugs, lies, lack of independent thought, and more that was not healthy to continue. He did not want to continue performing in venues that made money through selling alcohol and making people dependent on those things to “have fun” at a concert. He decided to leave the label, become an independent artist, returning back to Atlanta (after living in LA for some time), and start back at his roots to dive into helping his own community first. By going on tour with the Come to the Woods event, he has been able to gather a community of youth to help in making this mission a reality. We do need more help, though!

4. Selfie Elevator Pitch: Include 1-minute video that answers the following “I am stepping up to make change because...”

Thank you T-MOBILE for this wonderful opportunity extended to all of the change makers who have applied.

5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

When people are interested in joining The Woods, they will tell us what they are most passionate about and where their role may be of assistance. I attended a Woods show, and ended up becoming a part of this team because the mission was in alignment with what i believe to be best for the future our generations to Come. I joined by curating events such as The Woods Flux, Her Divine ( a women’s circle), and Grand Parle (a fun party).

6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

We are creating a team that will inspire family-like community by encouraging health, environmental sustainability, and unity. Our approach is beginning with our immediate friends, family, And community, in order to create the butterfly effect worldwide. We are in service of the earth, and art will not be taken away in the process.

7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

The Woods has been across the USA from atlanta to arizona to south carolina and new york. It has adventured throughout the woods of the southeast by dropping seeds in communities and inspiring them to go outdoors and learn from nature. It has inspired artists to sing out in nature, such as Mike Posner doing shows in the woods shortly after Raury. This is a great domino effect to create as more artists should allow themselves to perform out in nature versus a venue with alcohol and more damaging substance. Raury has 169k follows on Instagram, over 200k on twitter, and patreon.com is a site where people can support the movement monetarily. We have over 250+ patrons supporting the movement currently and there is vegan recipe videos, monologues, and other exclusive content that keeps the patrons inspired.

8. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

Raury has a new album coming out in which is a folk, meditative album. We will go on tour in November continuing to build community up and together as we make these direct relationships with communities. We are still looking for investors to help with land and farm and stage production. The music, events, cd’s, woods merchandise (t-shirts), patreon are currently the form of income The Woods is fueled off of.

Kris--
This is a great idea that I believe could get a lot of movement, especially with the growing festival scene. The Woods is a refreshing alternative to the heavily commercialized and controlled music industry. This is a great way to put the focus of shows back into the music, ourselves, and our community rather than intoxication and superficiality. I'm excited to see where you take it next!
