Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Start-Up (first few activities have happened)

1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

imagine your mother, sister, aunt or daughter, going to work everyday to be called mean names and get paid a mere cut of the revenue she brings in. imagine her up for a big position that could change her life and then getting her period and missing her chance because she wasn't prepared and life does not wait, imagine her on the street, alone with not a $ to her name and no way to bathe herself to go to work and get herself out of that situation

2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

here at Venus survival, our main goal is to empower women and inspire them to be the best them they could possibly be. With this as our drive, we've created 100% cruelty free and vegan survival kits that include everything an every woman should have on her to help her conquer her day. These bags will have focus' on self care, hygiene, home care, family care, etc. and will be packed full of everything a woman needs to be the queen of her castle. in addition to this, Venus survival has committed that for every survival kit sold, a portion of proceeds will be used to provide feminine hygiene bags, events, food, care and support for local homeless women in the Palm beach, Broward county and Miami Dade areas

3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?

Erykah (Our Ceo) lives in ft Lauderdale, where she began her career in the plant based culinary arts, through her journey in the kitchen, Erykah, at 19 years old, discovered that the world isn't always on your side. Erykah worked for men who valued nothing more in a woman than her looks, next to men who felt the right to take positions that she worked very hard for, and under men & women who did nothing to help Erykah succeed in these circumstances. In her 1st real taste of adulthood, Erykah was heart broken, pushed aside and made feel like an inconvenience for being a women in a "mans world". It wasn't until the day Erykah was not prepared for her monthly girl flu, and was told by her boss to "get that sh*t under control" that her chance at better pay was given to a less hard working but more camera ready woman, & she if she wanted a woman's world she had to go and create one.

4. Selfie Elevator Pitch: Include 1-minute video that answers the following “I am stepping up to make change because...”

5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

when a customer purchases a venus survival kit they will receive the bag of their choice (self care bag, natural home cleaning bag, chemical free baby care kit, the working woman bag, etc.). Each bag is designed to empower women by providing them with everything they may need to survive that specific scenario and come out like a boss. Also, With the purchase of every bag, a donation gets made to a homeless woman in need. these donations include hosting free food events and clothing drives and job fairs for those in need, an donations of our homeless care bag that comes packed with soap, deodorant, hair care necessities, teeth care products, organic and chlorine free period products, granola bars and a $10 publix gift card.

6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

Other solutions out there are incredible and I am grateful for the women out there fighting for justice. Venus survival is very similar to many companies that donate period products, food and clothing to those in need except, we are an all in one company. we are dedicated to providing food, clothing, self care products, and as we continue to grow, we plan on providing housing, job opportunities, magazines and blog posts with advice columns. we plan on completely taking over and lowering the rate of homelessness and struggle for women all over.

7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

Though we have not made sales yet, we have been testing kits out and donating bags to homeless women in need. the kits have already helped women all over conquer interviews, tough situations in the work place and provide for their family and home in toxic, chemical free ways like never before. Our donated bags have provided women with tampons, soap, and other feminine hygiene products to take care of themselves on a regular without compromising their integrity and stealing from others in order to survive. We have gotten so much positive feedback that it almost seems like a crime to not keep uplifting women who otherwise may not be getting the encouragement and support they need.

8. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

Once we increase sales in our survival bags, the goal is to start hosting events where we supply free food, clothing and job opportunities to those in need. we also plan on creating blog posts and magazine articles based around giving women advice and motivation to be the best them they can possibly be even in times of hardship, struggle and emotional and physical pain. we have so many incredible plans for the future and are very excited to bring them to life and make the world a little bit of a better place for women everywhere.

Thanks for sharing your story Erykah! I love your passion about making the workplace a better place for women and the steps you've already taken to arm women with survival kits. Feminine needs are definitely still taboo in the workplace and I myself have experienced awkward situations that have risen due to needing feminine care. Personally, I think it would be great that once you start selling the kids/have funding, that you consider proposing local policy changes around female discrimination in the work-place. Maybe there needs to be a mandatory breaks allowed for women during their cycles so they can take care of themselves without being made to feel like they aren't as committed to their jobs. Good luck!
