Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.
Growth (have moved past the very first activities; working towards the next level of expansion)
1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
When patients are diagnosed with a medical condition, they may feel extremely isolated. This is especially true in adolescents and patients with rare diseases. Current support options such as support groups and online support groups can be out of physical reach or disorganized and unfocused. Another opportunity patients are missing is the immense reservoir of patient knowledge from personal experience. Patients tips are proven to improve health.
2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
Bubl Health is an app that will connect patients to condition-based, global communities. In these communities patients can post tips and personal experiences they feel will be beneficial to the patients in the community. From a consumer perspective, Bubl Health will have the most crowdsourced tips for your specific condition. All tips are rated on a five star scale by the patients in the community, so you can see at a glance the value that information has provided others. The highest rated posts are at the top of your feed, and all posts are searchable so you can spend less time on the app and more time looking after your health. We will expand our features to include community wide live chat, as well as simultaneous, individual live chat matchmaking so patients can talk live to another patient individually or the community as a whole. We also hope to partner with doctors to help patients find the specialists they need.
3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?
I started working on Bubl Health in my freshman year of high school after hearing my mom's story. When my mom was a teenager, she was diagnosed with are rare autoimmune disease. She was a medical anomaly because the vast majority of patients with her condition are in their 50s and 60s. She felt incredible isolated, and didn't know how to take care of herself as a teenager with such a rare disease. Her story inspires me to work for a future where no patient feels isolated, and all patients have the information and support they need.
4. Selfie Elevator Pitch: Include 1-minute video that answers the following “I am stepping up to make change because...”
5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
Bubl Health is currently in development, so we don't have any anecdotes from users. However, many people have shared the impact my message had on them after watching my TEDx Talk. One man in particular, Nippy, was about to face a surgery. He was terrified, had no idea what to expect, and had no idea how to care for himself after the recovery process. After he watched my TEDx Talk, he explored different online chat rooms about his particular surgery. He shared that the information he learned from other patients who had gone before him gave him confidence and eliminated his worries about recovery. Bubl Health hopes to centralize and streamline Nippy's experience.
6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
Bubl Health is build around the belief that patients are an untapped resource of health knowledge. The lessons patients gain from living with their condition or operation are incredibly valuable to new patients who know nothing about living and thriving with their condition. Doctors have incredible knowledge about the condition from a medical perspective, but often lack the patient perspective. Bubl Health can provide those patient perspectives in a centralize, streamlined, and searchable patient community.
7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
As I mentioned before, Bubl Health is currently in development, but the message behind Bubl health has already been heard by over 2,000 people. I've learned of the personal impact and potential for Bubl Health from many patients. When the app is released, we will use usage analytics to quantify the impact, based on number of posts and interactions on each post. We will also collect personal stories of the impact Bubl Health has had on patients' lives and share them on our social media platforms.
8. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
We are releasing the Bubl Health's beta around Thanksgiving. That will kickstart a three to six month testing period where we focus on a single condition. After the testing period and updates, we will release Bubl Health to the general public and begin our marketing campaign.
