Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Idea (hoping to get started in the future)

1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

In this day in age, it has because less important to do things such as to care for the environment, care for the homeless, churches and schools, etc. Our purpose is to educate people on how to take care of the world in many aspects to give future generations a chance at a healthier and happier life in which they can prosper.

2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

Through strategic lessons based on one topic, Mission 5:14 will host a certain conference night in which we teach about the topic. This year's topic is focussed on the environment. We will include cause and effect to put what we're teaching into perspective. This also reflects on the events we host in order to have a hands-on activity to help members learn as well as impact the community. Our lessons are two parts to help engage our members on the season's topic.

3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?

Originally, another group was formed in 2015 for the purpose of getting volunteer hours for National Junior Honors Society. After three years of this, it was recognized there were many things that this group couldn't do for the community. This is when some of the members got together and started drafting a plan for what we could do next. After 2 years, we decided that we wanted to solve the problem of awareness. This meaning that we would educate the youth on things such as how to care for the environment, the homeless, our schools and churches, etc. Our organization gives people a deeper knowledge of the world around them From there we chose a name that really meant something to us. Mission 5:14 is based on the words, "Treat your neighbor as yourself" -Galatians 5:14

4. Selfie Elevator Pitch: Include 1-minute video that answers the following “I am stepping up to make change because...”

5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

People have multiple opportunities to get involved with Mission 5:14 including recruitment events, year-round one-time volunteer forms, and the ability to get into contact with us anytime. After starting to get involved students are immediately added to the organization and looped into events and lesson plans along with competitions and are assigned to a branch of the organization if necessary.

6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

Our community doesn't have any organizations that will teach and volunteer with an equal purpose. Also, the community doesn't have an organization that will teach them about the many skills that seem to be fading away. We need to know how to care for our communities every day, so that one day when we need it, our community can care for us. Our organization was founded on the need to help future generations prosper. The future generation starts with us.

7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

We have roughly 20 recruited volunteer and board members in our program. So far we have done a few events including yard cleanup and lessons associating with the event. We also include all volunteers on the start-up portion of the organization to educate them on that as well. We have planned fundraisers and future events as well.

8. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

Within the next year, we hope to be registered with all of our paperwork and to be working even closer with our school, churches, and other organizations to impact other people. We plan to host 10 events along with 10 lessons with this year's environmental season. Our goal is to keep growing and keep educating starting in our small town.
