Equal opportunities for low income children and families.
My change aims to provide equal educational opportunities and a safe, and loving environment to low income families.
Three years ago, I started my caregiver journey. I was taught about being punctual(school pick ups) being dependable(not calling out as I was a big help while parents were away) responsibilities(taking care of someone other than myself) but most of all I was taught this is exactly the field I have the passion to be in. I love what I do and the bond built with the children who are ultimately the future.
A day at work consist of many different moods and emotions it is not always easy to work with children but it is always fun. My main priority is safety and maintaining my children happy. I try to teach them all I know, be a good role model, take them on different adventures and activities. While their parent may not be present at the moment, I am there for them.
I made a room in my home into a playroom to accommodate to those who live with friends and family or may have any other obstacles which makes them feel more comfortable being able to bring their most prized possessions to me. Here they can play, read, color, eat all while being safe and treated well. It insures they are not alone and do have someone willing to work with their situation. This also gives me experience with pursuing my dream of an in home daycare.

Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.
Start-Up (first few activities have happened)
1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
I believe in equality and this division we see in society can eventually lead to children/ children of low income families down the wrong roads in life. It is vital they have someone there for them. Motivating, supporting, loving, respecting them. Family is not only the one you’re born into. Unfortunately we do not all have the privilege to basic needs, financial stability, educational opportunities, a strong family unit ect.
2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
I plan on with the help of others, providing childcare and all the same opportunities to low income neighborhoods. Sure, assistance is provided in other ways for these families but are they getting the resources to help and better the lives of these families or is the issue getting swept under the rug and being ignored. I plan on working hard to make the visions of those in need a reality. Myself, family and friends, donations, other organizations, community volunteers for example extra curricular activities, day at the park/cook out. Really getting involved.
3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?
One thing I will always cherish is my parents. For bringing me into such a home of essential unconditional love, respect, understanding, involvement and showing me relationships are important also that being good to others can be life changing for both parties. I have not had a “perfect” life neither one of my parents have careers but I have never missed out on anything. They always made sure my sisters and I had all we needed. There is so much more to life than the materialistic. And It is so rewarding to be able to share this message with others. You learn and grow as you experience different struggles, pain, loss, inconsistencies. You are unstoppable, all is possible, I want to be the change.
4. Selfie Elevator Pitch: Include 1-minute video that answers the following “I am stepping up to make change because...”
When beginning my job search in a new state, I came across this opportunity called city year of Orlando it is a program of leaders, mentors and tutors who go to low income neighborhoods and schools all over Central Florida. It is important these amazing efforts are seen in younger aged childcare as well.
5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
My idea would be a daycare ran by a few dedicated, hardworking , genuine, loving people. A daycare where everyone is happy to come into and they forget about the outside world or their own hardships. A daycare where people feel secure and loved and where we are all having fun.
As a nanny I aim to meet the needs of all families. I have detailed reviews and references of what families experienced while their children were in my care and how my being made their children feel. The memories we have together make a difference.
6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
What makes my project different than others is that I don’t want anything else but to cater to our youth through education, extra curricular activities, kindness, love, compassion. As a young person myself, who has gone through difficult things. I want to be able to be a friend, a shoulder to lean on. I want to help families in need even if the child may not know whats going on I want to contribute to their happiness. Their future needs to be secure. They will grow up one day with the values, teachings and tools given to them now.
7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
I took 3 years of early childhood and development and was a pre-school teachers aide for 1 year. In my last 3 years in childcare I have worked with over 25 families of children of all ages. No matter how much you have you are deserving of being treated equally well. How much you have should not limit what these children are capable of or how their self esteem is built. I have worked with all financial statuses and have never been opposed to helping out, lower rates if needed ect. We all need someone, but all my children have been treated the same. At parks, schools,in neighborhoods you meet all types of people who come from different backgrounds. And to be able to make their lives easier by them knowing their children are in good hands is so rewarding.
8. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
I have began certification and licensing requirements for the future of my in home daycare. I am CPR and First aide certified in infants, children and adults. Trying to get my finances in order and hopefully in the near future finding a beautiful home and filling it with all things toys, games, books, food, friends, and love to begin this journey. I will organize food drives, donations of back to school supplies, create a social media platform to raise awareness, hold holiday events in order to make the lives of these families much easier.
