Idea (hoping to get started in the future)
1. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
Teen experience a lot of mental health issues and trauma within the teen years. Often times its hard for teens to talk to adults, and find it easier to talk through their issues with peers.
2. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
The app would be similar to a facebook app, but would focus on teen issues and provide group conversation as well as individual conversations. It would focus on implementing positive reinforcement on teen issues
3. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project?
Technology is forever changing and teens are focused on the advancement of technology. 80% of teens have cell phones and 95% of teens are active on some kind of social media platform. Teen experience depression. self esteem and self image issues. 75% of teens state that they feel they don't have anyone to talk to regarding the issues that they face everyday. This app allows teens to become leaders in their community as well as help provide a solution to a huge epidemic within the teen community. As a member of the Newton County Boys & Girls Club over the summer we held group session that allowed us to openly discuss what we as teens were experiencing, there was a lot of common issues amongst everyone we provided the support for each in a group session. So to take that concept and put it in an app could be very helpful
5. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
Teen swill have the option to download the app. The contributors of the team will monitor the app to make sure everything is clean. Members will be able to create their own profiles and will have different message boards that talk about different topics. For Example one message board topic might be:
I am feeling overwhelmed with my school work- School work and homework is a big stressor for teens this message board can help them with techniques that can help them
6. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
To the best of my knowledge there is no similar program or app that does this
7. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
9. Which of the following types of expertise would be most useful for you?
How did you hear about this challenge?
