1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."

2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

For years now we've watched social media broadcast individuals fall victim to police brutality. I am aware that it is an issue that needs to be addressed. But what many fail to realize is that marching doesn't solve the problem, the conversation does. These acts of racism ( power paired with prejudice) stem solely from prejudice (preconceived opinion that is not based on actual experience). Change can only be made through a change in perspective

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

As I previously stated, the underlying issue of police brutality is prejudice. Both the horrible experiences the police on duty have had in the past and the lack of positive interactions they've had while on duty makes it all but harder to let their guard down. What Badge Up would focus on, is providing a space where police and urban youth would be free to meet, communicate, and see each as humans.

Step One: Analyzing the Problem Through Perspective
 Research would be done to find the most at risk schools in certain areas in regards to the amount of arrests students have school suspensions, and things of that sort ( disregards race- Because I believe that this is a socio-economic issue rather than a race issue). From there, the team would reach out to the school and ask if a teacher, coach, mentor and etc would want to be a chapter leader. You would also ask the local police if they would like to participate in this program
Step Two: Recruitment
From there the would pick a few students to attend the program where they would participate in a program with students from other parts of town ( primarily because you want to form a bigger community.

Step Three: The Meeting
A conference would be held at the end of June that's when school

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

To be quite honest, one of the solutions I've seen out there is Black Lives Matter... but I haven't seen any progress being done. I've marched, I've watched marches, and so on and so forth. But sooner or later, I go down my timeline and see another person of color, a white street kid, a Hispanic individual being treating as if they are trash. No one is forming the connection, just complaining. We need to unite and become one.

6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

In regards to measuring impact, social media would be the go to. As this issue has stemmed from the masses become aware of police brutality. Word of mouth is the biggest weapon. Second, the change of heart in both the police and the youth.

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

New partnerships would be ideal, having a few beings that have a stake in this realm come in for a conference would truly create an impact. Which would grow our platform and expand our footprint.

Whattt! Honestly networking is what I do best! All you need to do is reach out to various different youth influencers and current police stakeholders such as Officer Norman or Yara Ashidi who have a grasp on a mass audience in order to start a movement.
