Start-Up (first few activities have happened)
1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
Personally l found myself at 14yrs old following negative trends to keep up with my peers, both in my community, and on social media. I was smoking, drinking, selling drugs, punching on random people, bullying, stealing, and disrespecting adults amongst other things.
We were nervous, this is our first time speaking on camera lol. We are in the process of going through a training, next time we’ll be a little more seasoned.
It doesn't help that there's a lack of positive male role models in my community. However, I decided to breakaway and be different, because I seen I was headed down a destructive path.
I also realized that MOST parents aren't aware of what their children (young as 10) is involved in most of the time until it’s already too late. It’s very unfortunate but this is the culture of young people growing up in the hood.
That’s why BD1FFERENT exist, to create impactful eye-opening PSA’s, to not only make parents/society aware of the various adversities children face but to inspire young people to BE DIFFERENT!
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
Young people in communities of color have no sense of individuality. We grow up continually brainwashed, imitating the negativity that’s subliminally influenced to us through hip-hop, local, and mass media.
Since we have no control over the content that's published through those outlets, we have to change our reactions to them and how they affect us. I believe it’s key for us to first identify our self worth.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
BD1FFERENT launches PSA’s inspiring young people to Be Different, while at the same time bringing awareness to the various adversities that is a contributing factor to our lack of individuality.
Lack of awareness leaves issues in the dark – unseen, unknown, and un-addressable – leaving us who deal with these very real and very challenging situations in our lives feeling isolated, broken, or like our struggle may never end, which is why we ultimately give up and give in to what we already know is wrong.
4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
There are so many ways anyone and everyone can get involved with our mission. Contributions big or small will result in BIG Impacts.
It can be as simple as reposting or sharing the content we published via our social media channels, to acting in our videos, helping to produce content, assisting in fundraising campaigns, donating your own services, and so much more.
Just know what you get in return priceless and invaluable, because you are helping save minds and lives.
5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
Other programs are either not effectively reaching its audience, focuses on one area, or are restrictive by age or some other measure.
For instance there’s an initiative that focuses on drugs and alcohol but is restrictive to teens primarily 15yrs+, however I personally know children as young as 9yrs who are already engaging in those types of activities.
Our initiative is all-inclusive with almost no boundaries as it relates to inspiring positive change amongst young people. Most importantly, we can partner with these other programs or solutions to make a GREATER impact.
6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
This project has just evolved from the idea stage and is now in the action stage. In a short period of time we’ve already gained the support of a few companies and individuals.
We will measure the success of BD1FFERENT by testimonials, website hits, search volume, and the following:
On Social Media: followers, likes, impressions, mentions, comments, repost, and hash tags
Via Apparel: items sold
By Commitment: sms opt-ins, email sign-ups, pledge cards signed, and donations

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
1). File Legal Documents
2). Register our website domain and Hosting
3). Hire a web, flyer, business card, t-shirt, and logo designer
4). Get 5,000 3x4 Flyers printed for distribution
5). Get 10,000 Business Cards printed for distribution
6). Get 100 T-Shirts made to sell in efforts to raise additional funds and to spread brand awareness
7). Set-up a SMS Campaign
8). Start launching campaigns, which come in various forms, such as: Apparel, Social Media Post & Challenges, Events, Songs, Videos, etc.
9). Market and Promote our Campaigns
8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?
Continuous funding so we can launch on-going Campaigns geared around inspiring young people to be different and brining awareness to adversities that effect them, host events, expand our social media marketing & advertisements, and sponsor other young change-makers promoting/inspiring individuality!

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.
Networking via platforms like this one (http://changemakers.org) where other like-minded individuals (aka my peers) exist.
We are open to partner with any person, company or organization that shares our vision, and will actually start by researching through the many organizations listed here on this platform to see which ones we can potentially partner with.
Once we identify those organizations, we’ll reach out and figure out collectively what a partnership would look like.
BD1FFERENT is for Youth, by Youth, meaning we are open to any and all young people whom would like to get involved in the cause. Young people who get involved with BD1FFERENT are considered to be ambassadors, therefore taking on a leadership role in being a positive force for change!
