1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
The stigma around mental health issues causes teenagers to hide, keep secrets, become isolated and afraid, and sink into despair.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
Train EVERYON in 1. Active Listening – We use reflective listening to insure we are hearing what the other person is saying – and all the pieces of it. When a person feels heard, trust is earned and we can move into 2. Clarifying the issue – How bad is it, what have you done so far to alieviate the pain, who have you reached out to? Have you identified specific things you want right now? 3. How can you live according to your values, and not your feelings. So, how can you learn to make space for test anxiety but know that it will be worth it because you want to pass the class and graduate – simple example but it helps understand the concept. This works will all levels of depression and anxiety. Build a toolbox 1. Deep breathing exercises 2. Mindfulness strategies – be fully present in the moment – notice 5 things from each of your senses and sit in the moment at hand. 3. Learn to increase your thinking. Instead of I am feeling sad, open it up to saying, “I am having the thought that I am sad”. This strategy can give you space to breathe, and see if there are other thoughts. Exercise alone or with a friend to release endorphins and loosen up your mind!

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
Its easy to learn these techniques when you are practicing them with a variety of people each and every week. Stickers are easy to hand out because they are culturally relevant! All you have to do to join is show up for dinner!

Grow to other schools in Douglas County and other states Build "The House" (our official building)

Happy campaign could work with teen rising to end exree poverty, creative classrooms through empowered teachers, fostering youth peacemakers and many other changemakers who are working with teens and adults that are focused on empowering and helping them grow.
