1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
I started this project because I believe that every kid in our nation deserves a opportunity to do something that will build there character in all ways possible. In Karate we have 5 character traits Modesty, Integrity, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. These characters have been a part of my life since I was 5 and it has changed my life forever.
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
I am helping to solve the problem of kids not being able to afford a karate expirence and all other expirences. Lots of kids are not able to afford experiences that they need to have in life. These experiences could better there character in ways that could change their life forever.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
I am planning to solve this problem by giving children a 6 month scholarship to Family Martial Arts Center between the karate school differing the the cost of tuition, the parents providing whatever tuition they can afford. We would like to in the coming months to differ the costs of all activities that help kids grow there character.
4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
When someone is to join our organization we find what fits them the best. There are some people that are very good at graphic design therefore we would put them with other kids who also like graphic design. Some people are very good at social media and how to use it we can also use as many people as we can in this field because social media is the gateway to everything. We want to make sure that everyone enjoys what they do when participating with Karate For Kids.
5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
I believe that the difference between my project and other people’s project is that I am giving kids the opportunity to have an experience that they would never previously have. The way my project stands out is because these traits that a child gets from karate are life long. The traits we teach are Modesty, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirt. These traits can go wherever a child decides to take there life and they will always have these to look back on.
6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
During our 13 months as a project we have raised over $3000 we have had 3 fundraisers. We are in the process right now of awarding our first scholarship to a child in the Fitchburg School District. Our very first fundraiser was a Karate Movie night the parents were able to drop there kids off for 4 hours and have a night out. We server the kids pizza had a free karate class and we all watched Kung Fu Panda. Our second fundraiser was a prize calendar, the prize calendar consisted of 30 days of Prizes both gift cards and cash. All the prizes were donated by local businesses in my community. Our most recent fundraiser was a 5k Walk/Run Race we had raffle baskets all donated. We had burgers all donated for our runners. We also had 1 free beer for each runner at the bar right next to the race. These have been all of our fundraisers.
7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
My ideas for the coming year are to expand past karate and on to bigger experiences. I would like to be able to provide any child with an experience that can teach them the same characteristics that karate has taught me my entire life. Some examples of this is to pay for a child to be in a baseball league. Another example is to have a Special Needs child go horseback riding. There are infinite amount of possibility's that we can create to make sure that every single kid can get the experience they need to be successful in life.
8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?
My vision is to give as many kids the opportunity to have the experience that I had growing up. To make this vision a reality I plan to get support from funding hopefully from this contest. I am also hoping to collaborate a lot more with other change makers to see if I can collaborate on projects with them.

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.
The ways that we have already mad young people leaders is through this organization. We have about young people who are slowly learning how to become a leader. The way that I believe we can partner with other change makers is by reaching out and seeing what ideas work with them and what ideas would work for us. I would like to create a group of change makers that bounces ideas off of each other with conference calls and meetups and such.
