Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Idea (hoping to get started in the future)

1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."

i am stepping up to make a change because, today not many at risk youth have the knowledge or help to further their education at all unless that are a star athlete. I want to implement a mentoring organization that pairs youth and college students in the surrounding areas so that they can already be prepared for what they want to do and what field they want to be in by the time the get to college. this mentor ship is a great opportunity for the youth in these low income homes to get the proper information on how to be prepared for a higher education as well as a life long relationship. I came up with this organization because I myself didn't have the help and guidance needed to get into college and had to do it on my own. I didn't i have anyone to help me chose my major and figure out what it was that i wanted to be. With me going through this hard time I found my purpose, helping youth.

2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

today not very many kids expect to go to further their educations unless they play football. kids in at risk communities don't have the tools and knowledge to get them to that point. i want to step in and fix this problem simply because today's youth are our future.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

i plan to partner at risk youth in Chattanooga with college students who share their same job interest. these college students will serve as a big brother/sister to the youth and help them in any way possible whether its tutoring, attention, or just advice for their future.

4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

1. a parent wants their child to be apart of our organization
2. they sign their child up through the orgs. website or a paper application.
3. we then partner each child with a student based off the interest they put on the application
4. once we get the mentors and mentees matched for the period we hold a Gala giving them their certificate of enrollment.
5. once the mentees meet their mentors at the gala they begin to form a relationship through primarily but not limited to(text, calls, and visits)
6. the mentee can ask the mentors whatever they want regarding life advice or tips for school.
once all these steps area done hopefully the mentee and mentor build a strong bond where the mentees feel safe and appreciated around their mentors.

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

the difference in my organization is that is is more specific. other mentor organizations let anyone in the community become mentors to children. Mine is only for college students. also the organization will hold different activities such as parties in the park pool parties and movie night for all mentees and interested you to participate in. this is an inclusive organizations so no youth will be left out based on age race religious background or gender.

6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

i plan yo go to as many middle schools and high schools to talk to these kids and get as many to join the organization as possible. No child in the city of Chattanooga should be left not knowing where they will be post high school graduation. if college is not for that child we will help them find other routs whether it be a service or entrepreneurship.

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

i plan to Partner with other organizations in the surrounding community dealing with children as well as hold a back to school drive/ block party in august for all students returning to school. i want Little me Big you to become a legalized non profit buy January 2019

8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?

i want to get a big number of members/ mentors to sign up by January 2019 as well as get different sponsorship after the organization becomes a non profit. my plan is to in the future have a building for the the organization so the both mentees and mentors have a free space to go.

9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?

  • Friend support
  • Family support
  • Mentors/advisors

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.

working with people with the same outlook on the community can big a big advantage for both organizations. because it gives the organizations to get inspiration as wells as builds opportunity for the members of each. i would love to find new ways to incorporate other change makers with my organization so that it could be most effective.

This idea was well thought out. Kids in this generation needs that one on one and your idea offers that. Great job. We should collaborate sometime.
