Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Start-Up (first few activities have happened)

1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."

2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

In light of the recent school shootings, the TEENwork website will help connect teens and allow them to help each other with their tough problems. This website will host partnering organizations, such as counseling centers, schools, community centers, and youth groups to help them during tough times. This platform will provide a forum, resources, and connect the arts to bring awareness to trending topics that affect youth today.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

This website would allow teens to enter testimonials on how the overcame problems they faced and these testimonials will be reviewed. Teens looking for advice would search for their respective problem. The site will host different forums, include current events, resources for support, and songs that bring awareness to trending problems.

4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

When a teen is facing a problem in their everyday life, they can find a solution from another teen experiencing the same thing. They will have access to free resources from partnering organizations, such as counseling, schools, and youth organizations. When a student accesses our website they will feel a sense of security and belonging; this will be a safe place to share their toughest problems and get real solutions.

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

The X Factor of this project is that it tackles several issues in the teen community. This project can help a broad audience and reach teens throughout the world. This unique approach incorporates music to bring awareness to the very real problems teens have to overcome. By asking popular artists to join the movement, it can bring sensitive issues to light in a positive way.

6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

We volunteered with Foundations Youth Center to help bring awareness to the rising threat of cyber-bullying in the teenage community. We helped over fifteen youth write lyrics and we provided the beat for them to create the finished song. All of our creative content was developed in-house with the help of amazing youth and my producing expertise. We finished our project only recently, but the impact on the community will be great. It can give teens comfort in dark times.

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

We have not fully launched this project, so I plan to launch this project at my school in an afterschool club. I will ask local school artists and school administrators to help gather resources, stories and create songs relating to trending issues. We will work with school staff to maintain an innovative website that is user-friendly and concise.

8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?

To accomplish our task, we will attain a web host and hire a web designer to create an innovative website with the capability of hosting forums, chats, resources, and video content. I will need talented artists to express the importance of the issues through the arts. We will need resources to maximize the potential reach of our project through social media, newsletters, and public events.

9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?

  • Friend support
  • Family support
  • Mentors/advisors

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.

By extending this project into the school, we can inspire other youth to become advocates for their fellow teens that are victims of these everyday issues. By involving my peers, they can branch out to impact different communities in a positive manner. Giving youth a voice helps build their confidence in the face of their obstacles. We can involve students, teachers, and families to provide a safe space to address such issues.
