"Lifting lives with the power of music"
Im stepping up to the challenge because I want to bring the gift of music to the aging population in America and abroad. I believe that the sound of music can bring happiness to anyone no matter age, sex or religion. The elderly community is sometimes forgotten about yet they are so important to future generations. I want the final days, weeks, months and or years to be the most memorable and enjoyable as possible for any elderly person looking to be lifted with the power of music.
My grandmother is in the early stages of dementia. This intimate performance of an original song I wrote "Pretty Brown Eyes" will forever be a special moment in my life.
Co- Founder, Yahnise Harris, a self taught pianist and producer plays for granny for the first time.

Start-Up (first few activities have happened)
1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
I have performed at venues, art galleries, clubs and theaters for the last 4 years but none of have been as meaningful as when I performed for my grandmother, who is in the early stages of dementia. My grandmother has never attended any of my performances due to her condition so my sister and I decided to bring a concert to her. When we finished performing our grandmother said "That made me so happy." It was then I knew there were probably other elderly residents who could benefit from the power of music. Its a proven fact that music can be an effective aid for brain stimulation, stress, anxiety and pain management for all ages. The visit with my grandmother inspired me to start a non profit of young musicians who want to volunteer their musical gifts to lift lives with the power of music. It will give young musicians the opportunity to give back using their God given talents.
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
Nursing homes have residents that suffer from illnesses, disabilities, loneliness and anxiety. Some elderly residents dont have insurance or means needed for a licensed Music Therapist. They may not get regular visitors. Mobile Musicians will bring hope, happiness and comfort by giving the gift of music to any resident regardless of sex, age, race. disability of financial situation. We want the final years of every senior to be enjoyable.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
I want to create a online directory that will list musicians ages 11- 23 that want to volunteer with organizations looking for volunteers. The directory will have musician profiles to include their contact info, musical qualifications, availability, desired volunteering destination and a video displaying their musical gift . The directory will also include Organizations ( nursing homes, assisted living, rehab centers) profiles where it will list their contact info, type of organization, volunteer availability calendar. The The Directory will have a scheduling calendar that will keep all visits organized.
A Mobile Musicians can be requested by the facility, a resident, or they can initiate direct contact with approved facilities using the online portal. Each mobile musicians will have the chance to also earn points or class credit for their service based on a point system calculated and accrued after each volunteer visit.
4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
All interested parties will go to the site address and set up a profile.
Name, Contact Info, Age
Select: College volunteer OR Highschool Volunteer
Link to their talent ( video)
Mark their availability on a claendar
Submit Background report-
Volunteer Points- Each time a volunteer completes a visit at a nursing home they will earn points. Mobile Musicians will not receive monetary but once they hit a certain number of points they can redeem for products ( depending on the tier). Those points can be used towards sponsored gifts from places like Tmobile, Amazon, Apple, Guitar Center, or other sponsors from raised funds.
Name of Institution, Contact Person, Address, type of organization and availability calendar. I will highlight and advertise one organization throughout the community as incentive for them to list their organization
5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
There is not an online directory that lists youth volunteers who perform music related activities in nursing homes. There is a foundation called Musicians On Call that provides adult musicians to hospitals only. Mobile Musicians will offer the next generation of young musicians the chance to make an impact in thier communities by using their musical talents to bring the gift of music to anyone who needs its it regardless of sex, age, race, disability or financial situation. Our project will bridge the generational gap between old school and new school, creating a everlasting bond.
6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
I am in the early phases of this project but the difference my sister and I made at my grandmothers home after one visit was personally very impactful. We were asked to come back again to perform for some of the residents who couldnt hear down the hallways.
Some cherished compliments we received when leaving were:
“I haven’t heard that song since I was a teenager, thanks you for the memory”
“My grand daughter hasn’t visited me in over 3 years, you remind me of her”
Knowing that we brought that much joy to people who are three times our age was an amazing blessing. I have no doubt that if we were able to lift the spirits of 4 lives with a voice, guitar and piano at one nursing home, we could do the same thing at others. We want to be the inspiration for others wanting to step up. We could collectively increase the healing power that music gives every living being across the globe.
7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
Mobile Musicians would really like to engage in social media using LIVE feeds that follows mobile musicians around to capture reactions and watch how the power of music is so important to the heart, mind and soul. We eventually want to expand the program to hospitals, rehab, hospice, assisted living and schools in underprivileged communities and countries all over the world. Music is a universal language that delivers the same global effect across generations.
8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?
1. Funds needed will go towards a designer to create a robust online directory. $1000
2. Marketing campaign budget to capture interested volunteers to sign up and create profiles. ( Social Media sponsored ads)
3. Need validation and endorsements from reputable brands to get established organizations to create an organization profile and donations to begin giving away points.
4. Assistance and guidance with starting a Non - profit 501( c )(3) organization
5. Grant writing class/education for sustainable growth
9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?
Donations less than $100
10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.
I will be tasked to building a network of musicians under 25 and students who are majoring in music . My younger sister, the Co-Founder of Mobile Musicians, will be responsible for engaging middle and high school students to volunteer. Together we will look for ambassadors to register in the directory. These ambassadors will refer people they know to the directory, share videos, posts and will receive reward points for doing so. After they have referred so many people they will receive something from one of our sponsors/donors . (Example: $5 off T mobile bill, gas card, Starbucks card or FREE Apple download). This reward system will give kids that arent able to afford certain things the opportunity by just simply sharing and networking We will attend college fairs, community events and musical festivals to introduce the program to musicians and sponsors. We will also partner with K-12 schools and universities that have music programs so students may receive practical practice performing, secure internships and/or get extra credit for participating. We want to build a global community of people from all walks of life who arent afraid of changing the world with music.
