1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."
Before Middle School, I came from the Intermediate School. There I knew many people and friends, and every part of my day was organized and planned out. But when I got to Middle School, it was like uncharted waters. I was not prepared. In my school we have programs that are supposed to inform 7th grade families what to expect, but it wasn’t effective for me. As the year went on, and I became a peer leader who learned about the school, I was able to find my way around. I remember the first week of middle school. I was scared to death. I know that the new 7th graders are feeling the exact same way I was. There needs to be a better way that informs students what to expect and what is happening in the school.
2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?
I am trying to make the adjustment for 7th graders into middle school more prepared. I feel like having a past 7th grader's perspective of the change of schools will prepare students and make the change bearable. I want more students to know what the classes are about, what you should know, and how to feel comfortable.
3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.
I plan to make many podcast episodes to tackle what to expect in the school. I plan to answer many comments and questions by listeners so I can help them know what to do. I plan to have some students in my grade to come in and help co-host with me so listeners can also see what it is like to see two perspectives. I plan for my strategy to be effective to students and would be more entertaining to watch. My podcast would introduce a new solution to the boring speeches, lectures, and pamphlets that are no fun at all. We live in a digital world right now, and a podcast would attract many listeners and would be the best way to reach my attended audience.
4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.
When someone gets involved with my project, they would become more prepared when coming into my middle school, SLRMS. Students will come into school on the first week not so clueless and afraid as they were years before.
5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?
My project will help provide a comforting environment to teens and tweens through one of the biggest adjustments in their life. There needs to be an improvement, and I know that my podcast will provide more confidence to 7th graders and they won't be worrying the whole summer what is going to happen. Project podcast will be very beneficial not only to students, but the teachers as well so their students have some knowledge of what to expect.
6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?
I know I will be making a difference because if I was a 7th grader again, I would feel comfortable through the adjustment and 300 other students would also be listening too.
7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?
I plan to not only tackle 7th grade criteria, but also 8th grade and beyond as I get older. I know that right now, I want to know what to expect in 8th grade. No one has talked abut the upcoming year, the same thing must be going through 7th graders minds too.
8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?
I will need microphones, a podcast editing system, a website or a place for listeners to write comments or ask questions. Also a logo and some minor music will also be necessary.

Having other students co-hosting on the podcast would be very helpful to viewers. Also having faculty members in my school also come on the show would also be good for listeners too.
