Project Stage: Select the description below that best applies to your approach.

  • Idea (hoping to get started in the future)

1. Personal Journey: What’s the story behind why you decided to start this project? NOTE: All applications must include a 1 minute video that answers: “I am stepping up to make change because..."

I desire to do more than just design clothes for people. why? After my cousin died to some unknown health issues, I realized that people can look as good as they want to on the outside with the apparel that they rock--whether its designed by me or a different brand..but if they're not healthy, they've failed. So, since its always been a part of my passion to be fit and healthy--I'd be a fool not to pour my knowledge on others who may be struggling with motivation to change unhealthy habits.
p.s: I unfortunately, due to submission errors, I was unable to submit my video that answers this question, but i would love to be contacted to answer it directly.

2. The Problem: What problem are you helping to solve?

An environment where there's a mixture of individuals who can afford little to nothing, get stores and restaurants that don't offer much for positive benefit. what i mean by that is, in my community, Walgreen have turned to dollar stores, and fitness centers have turned into McDonald. I want to open an studio where people can get both nutritious goods and fun aerobic training.

3. Your Solution: How are you planning to solve this problem? Share your specific approach.

I've already started by using social media as a platform to inform and inspire people. It started with me simply posting videos of me working out and it gained attention. People immediately began contacting to train them or post more. I also write blogs about my 10 cent on the issues I've seen in my community restaurants, the dangers of eating meat, etc. My approach--gather a team of health experts/trainers that will partner with me in motivating our community to exercise and in a fun way. find a location in my community thats a good fit for smoothstyles. I want people to find out through word-of-mouth.

4. Example: Please walk us through a specific example of what happens when a person or group gets involved with your project.

a person who is dealing with weight/health issues such as, overweight or high/low blood pressure, would come into the studio and maybe want to be around a bunch of other people working toward the same common goal, they would have a motivating and fun instructor who is helping them dance off their weight. or maybe this person needs specific one-on-one training, they can schedule a weekly health plan with a trainer to push them to get moving---and right in the center of aerobic exercising, i want a health bar where people can see different smoothies being made and purchased. they'd also be given instructions on which ingredients' to purchase that will target specific health improvement. they feel different--like they can do anything they put their mind to in order to be the best that they can be.

5. The X Factor: What is different about your project compared to other programs or solutions already out there?

i want my project to feel personal. very transparent, open, peaceful, and filled with love and encouragement. they can get it all in one place! --yoga, zumba, aerobics, smoothie bar, and knowledge! im serving people who turn to unhealthy eating because its cheap and convenient. i want them to understand what its doing or has done to their bodies and do something about it. my overall approach is to make people want to look and feel good on the inside just as much as they do on the outside.

6. Impact: How has your project made a difference so far?

I've engaged over 1,000 people. whether that's training them personally, or inspiring them to get up and do the same. my blogs about healthy eating has changed peoples perspectives on simply getting a quick meal. its like a quick fix--temporary and bad results. I have videos of people being pushed to work off fat, carbs, and calories that these fast food restaurants in our own community have caused. positive quotes all over the studio, facts about how a healthy diet and exercise can change lives---it will be colorful; which impacts light and life into the atmosphere, the uplifting sounds of nature, pop cultural, etc. I want to create a personal environment where people are now consistently open to a healthy choice of living both mentally and physically.

7. What’s Next: What are your ideas for taking your project to the next level?

I am planning a health party! where people can get a taste of what i want to bring to the community--the party will not only have custom athletic apparel made by me, but (more importantly), smoothie samples with 15 different flavors they can try. I've talked to some vegan food experts on making these beverages/smoothies come to life. it will impact their weight loss, skin and hair growth, and confidence.

8. Future Support: What are the resources needed to make your vision a reality?

I have a website that is under construction. My biggest thing right now is, the funding. I've raised or recieved a total of $200 thus far. However, I'm going to need funding for the event ---bring more awareness, and the purchase of the studio.

9. Finances: If applicable, have you mobilized any of the following resources so far?

  • Friend support
  • Family support
  • Mentors/advisors

10. Ripple Effect: Please share some ideas of how you could partner with other changemakers or involve other young people as leaders in making a difference.

changemakers could truly impact my desire to bring this change. this simple application is motivating for me to continue to push for this project to come to past. inspiring or molding other young leaders is a way i would love to partner with changemakers on. through this project, it would allow other leaders to think beyond themselves--to be in a positive environment and help create a new thing--wellness and confidence.
