Currently the statistics show that my children’s generation is suppose to die before me due to childhood obesity. Though nationally, the numbers are reversing; intersectionality lies at the heart of creating equitable opportunities for all. For instance in Fall 2014 while in pre-Kindergarten, my 4-year old Ruby had her first cavity in the first semester in public school. I knew it came from school and daycare serving candy, chips, and sugary drinks which I don’t serve at home. So I tried to get involved in the school’s PTA which never hosted meetings. That experience led to creating WANDA!
I love the focus on providing prevention, education and support to mothers. Given the stressors and lack of support for many parents, having this model can be the difference in saving a life. Thank you for your invaluable work!
"Black Genius!" You are a genius, Chief Dreamer! I love the work you are doing involving the families, communities and inspiring them to find their inner genius through exposure of others. I look forward to cross collaborating with your work in exposing Black Geniuses from the food, ag and nutrition sector to your youth!
