Seeing the immense struggle that some of the brightest kids in my community have with social and academic progress because of language barriers, I was inspired and pushed by my desire to create a strong support and mentoring system with a heavy emphasis on encouraging socializations for these kids. Having had difficulty connecting with others when I was younger because of an inability to speak English, I have gone through similar tribulations and feel inspired to impart positive growing experiences for all children, regardless of their language abilities.
I'd like to say that I think that this idea is really excellent! Honestly, it feels like civic engagement just isn't targeted enough in our communities, and that's really sad because our future really does depend on how knowledgeable and informed that generations growing up are. I'd love to see this project expand to be something international and incorporate multiple perspectives with a wide range of comics, but I think that your initiative right now is already on its way towards making a huge difference. :)
Hi Mikaela, It's so inspiring reading about the initiative you've taken so far, and I cannot begin to say how impactful your project can be on all these kids. Wishing you good luck in the challenge, especially in the hopes of getting a chance to collaborate/work with you in the future!
Thank you for your kind words! I really do hope that this project can grow into something impactful and meaningful for every individual. I feel like while there may be similar programs that exist elsewhere, the portion that I really do hope gets to shine through is the idea of helping these kids to feel comfortable and confident in themselves to succeed both academically and socially! It seems like in many cases, programs focus on one or the other. To me though, those two things go hand in hand with developing future leaders of our world and I think it's crucial that this group of kids gets a chance to shine in participating in socials or club activities as well. :) Wishing you good luck with the challenge as well!
