I am a mother and a grandmother, when my husband retired from being a diplomat, I start thinking to give back the love and the knowledge I had accumulate while living 35 years abroad. I always had dogs, so I start working with my dog as dog handler for Animal Assisted Activities. I had a project with autistic children and one of these , a teenager, with severe stereotypies but highly functioning. I was amazed to observe how the presence and interaction with the dog would sooth the boy and how less episodes of stereotypies were frequents during pet therapy sessions, allowing great progress.
Our organization has a long experience , especially with autistic children , we do have completed many programs over the years in different daycare centers with children with cognitive disabilities. We have daily empiric proofs of how great it works and this basically because the dog is absolutely non judgmental and it facilitates a direct connexion.
