Hi James,
Thank you for your question! We certainly do understand the struggle that introducing new vegetables can be for various groups. That is why we have chosen not to use atypical vegetable varieties or bio-fortified foods. Instead, we empower families to choose what they grow from locally known vegetable varieties. Our Home Garden Package, given to families participating in our Health Center Program, includes a combination of leafy greens, legumes, and market vegetables in which a family chooses a certain number from each category. In this way, our model focuses on the element of choice so that families feel empowered to make decisions on what works best for them. Additionally, we specifically include market crops in our Home Garden Package, knowing that families might sell some of their crops for additional income.
I hope this answers your questions. And please feel free to respond with further questions!
